Backyard Wedding

We were just invited to a backyard wedding and wondered how much should I give as a gift?

Re: Backyard Wedding

I would give the same as if it were in a catering hall, or any other place.

Re: Backyard Wedding

I'd probably give the same as if it were anywhere else. Its still going to be an expense to bring EVERYTHING (from cutlery to linens, workers, etc) into the house.

I don't think this is going to be a fancy wedding. When I mean cater, I mean getting food with sternos from a restaurant.

Yes. My dad's 3rd wedding invitations were word attachments to an email. I still gave what I would have given them if it was at Oheka.

ETA: The wedding was a potluck at a VFW hall in Georgia. Guests were the photographers with throwaway cameras. It was about as hill-billy as you can get.

Re: Backyard Wedding

I generally base the amount of my gift on my relationship with the bride and groom (i.e. family, close friends, not so close friends, etc.) and on how much I can afford.

I don't factor in where the wedding is. My theory is that just becuase someone chooses to have a very expensive wedding, doesn't mean they are entitled to a bigger gift and if you hvae a smaller wedding, you aren't!

Re: Backyard Wedding

I went to a wedding that was on the beach with dinner on a lawn last summer

I was bit on the foot by a spider or some sort of bug and my foot swelled up to 4 times its size....

I wish I couldve taken some money back for the pain and suffering that wedding caused me Chat Icon

Re: Backyard Wedding

ok, i'll be the odd woman out...i would give a bit less than if it were in a catering hall. my rule of thumb is always give as much to AT LEAST cover each plate. and being that they're not spending as much, i would take that into account.

my usual wedding gift is $300...so for a backyard wedding i'd give maybe $150-$200.

im being completely honest! dont flame!Chat Icon
