Baby waking up-- not hungry?

So for the last two days, Sasha has been waking up all smiles, and then I change her, go to feed her and she is not interested in eating.

She gets two bottles in the middle of the night when she wakes up. One at 12 45ish, and the other about 4 45. She finishes the first (5oz), and the second she has about 2.5 to 3oz.

Based on what the doc said-- she is not really hungry in the middle of the night (we need to start sleep training), but I guess she is getting enough food that she is not waking up hungry?

She went on and off for a few mins this AM, then basically spit up the little she got.

Yesterday she didn't really "eat" til like 11-- despite me trying to feed her probably like 2 or 3 times since she woke up at 7ish.

My DD is like this. She usually wakes up once between 2:00-3:30 for a bottle and she will wake up around 6:30-7:00. She won't take a bottle until about 8 or 9.

I used to try to get her to eat before we left in the morning, but she wouldn't take it. I leave for work at 7:15 so she doesn't have her first bottle until she is at the sitter's.

Re: Baby waking up-- not hungry?

have you tried to wait like 5-10 min until you go get her.... my DS does that in the morning around 7am.. we turn the monitor on and watch him and if he isnt fussing, we leave him there... he usually goes back to sleep until 830-9..

try that... i think she is used to waking at those times, and its normal for her.. she just wants to see your face and cuddle...

also - i know she isnt waking from hunger, but have you tried putting some rice cereal in those night time bottles, that would fill her up and she will less likely to wake...
once we used the cereal in the bottle, DS slept 6 hrs, then 10, and now he gives us 12-13 hrs...GOOD LUCK

I know some poeple swear the rice cereal in the bottle works and who knows it may for some, My experience with DS is that it didn't work and I think it made him wake up more in the middle of the night. Randi I thijhk babies just go through phases with everything. If she's hungry she'll let you know, I don't think you should worry about it too much. Ds is still waking up in the middle of the night at least once to nurse (sometimes twice) and there have been timeds in the morning when he is not interested to eat first thing, I give 1/2 hr or so and he's usually ready then.

My DD does that sometimes..she was Sleeping through the night from about 3 months to 5 and then stopped when teething started..now it is so inconsistant it is rough...sleep training isnt easy, i gave my DD a pacifer because one thing i realized was she just wanted to suck, and to my luck , has really worked because she would wake and take an ounce or two and pass back out...i think the pain of teething might of been waking her too but i also think she didnt know how to self soothe...i didnt do CIO as i am not cut out for that yet but i just popped a binky in and until we got the shots yesterday, she was Sleep through all of a sudden again...Have you also started feeding more during the day-that makes a huge difference with my DD..we would feed her more during the day and i would leave a little gap before bed so that she took the whole thing down and boom, out like a light...also, i got a faster nipple (use the Dr Browns bc she used to always fall asleep at the bottle and that way, she got it all , maybe a little quick but then she would not wake hungry..lately, she will go 12 hour stretches almost without the bottle! I am like, wow, but we are also feeding cereal and fruits..she wakes and doesnt want anything for like an hour or 2

Good news for you!!! She's phasing out her nightime feedings. Give her a binky at 4:45 instead of milk and she'll go back to sleep.

Enjoy this time!

Re: Baby waking up-- not hungry?

My Dr. said when DD#1 used to wake multiple times a night that it was habit and not hunger. I was told that a baby that is over 10lbs should be able to make it through the night without being hungry.

This is interesting, but makes sense to me a little. DD (knock on wood) sleeps seven hours at night and the Dr told me not to wake her to feed her as long as she was gaining weight, which she is... I would imagine if she was eating twice a night, she would not be hungry first thing in the morning.

Re: Baby waking up-- not hungry?

Liam does this. Granted he is sleeping through the night, but when he wakes up at 5AM or 6AM he isn't that hungry until about a half hour after waking up. I think he's just up.

I'm surprised Sasha is still taking a 12M and 4AM bottle at her age. Does she wake up for both bottles? What time does she go down at night?
