He is 7 months and still waking once in the middle of the night. He guzzles 5 oz down. He eyes are closed the whole time. How do I know if he is waking out of habit or b/c he is hungry. To me if he is drinking that whole bottle he is hungry.

I'm sure he is hungry, but maybe you can change that over time...

Can you possibly up the amt. he is getting during the day, while slowly decreasing the amount he is getting at night...and over time you'll get him down to one oz. at night and then he will no longer require it?

He is already drinking 4 seven ounce bottles during the day. I can try to up it to 7.5 but I don't know if the will drink it. I just recently increased from 6.5 to 7.

Does Tyler hold his own bottle yet?

I know that if we let Jacen hold his own bottle, he'll actually finish the whole bottle (otherwise if he doesn't hold it, he doesn't always finish it). Chat Icon

But yes i would gradually decrease the ounces at night and he'll adjust to eat more during the day. Then when you get down to 1 or 2 ounces, you'll know that he's not waking for hunger! Chat Icon

Hmmm...how's he doing on solids?

Even if you can't raise the amt. of ounces during the day, maybe try lowering the amount he is getting at night...each week decrease by 1 oz. and see what happens...he could just be used to the feeding and maybe you can help him to phase it out?

Sorry I'm not really being too helpful here...

How much solid food is he eating?

Is he waking at the same time every night?

If he's waking at the same time every night, I would think that it's maybe a habit at this time. Try to comfort him in other ways, like rubbing his back or head, for a few minutes. If he calms down, maybe he will go back to sleep.

Sometimes there will be a pattern of around the same time but for the most part its different times. Even if I give him a bottle before bed he still wakes. I just don't get how he can be hungry. He isn't that great with solids. He eats a jar of food in the morning and one at night. He is very picky with the food.

If you dont give him a bottle will he just cry until he gets one or will he relax in your arms?

When DS would wake for a bottle due to hunger there was no calming him until he got that bottle. But when he was just waking because I could rock him, cuddle with him and he would fall asleep again.

Do you give him cereal at night for dinner or just fruit/veggie?

Now I just feed him so I can go back to bed lol. But at times when I tried to see if I could get him back to sleep he would scream. I haven't tried in a while though.

He will only eat the cereal with fruit already made in the jar. He is giving me an extremely hard time with veggies and fruit by itself.
