Baby Shower Question

OK What is your honest opinion of this.......

My mom wants to throw me a baby shower..due money constraints and the fact that she lives upstate she will be having the shower at my house...

I see on the "Baby Story" all the time that baby showers arent usually a huge surprise any more nor are they a women thing....

Should I pretend not to be involved or what?..I dont want to offend anyone or be the cause of family gossip...

This isnt my first child BUT my youngest are 8 and this is my first child with my husband..

Also how do you go about inviting people that arent really friends but more than just a casual aquantiance? I have several people who I dont want to exclude b/c I think they would be offended but I dont want them to think that Im just looking for gifts either..

I say if you pretend not to be involved, people will be happier, but if you have to be involved, who cares what they think??? Also, if you pretend you had nothing to do with it (and your mom plays along) the casual aquaintances won't know YOU are the one who invited them!
