Baby Names You Think May Be Overused?

I just wanted to preface by saying that I don't have anything against the names below but just find them used very often lately.

For girl, it has gotta be Madison
For boy, it's Aiden, Jayden or Cayden

Anyone else find any other names overused?

Re: Baby Names You Think Are Overused?

I have a lot...but I don't wanna offend any moms here.

I am kinda over the funky spellings of names, and last names as first names (I student taught 2nd grade, I saw a lot of this).

Re: Baby Names You Think May Be Overused?

It's funny..names come and go in popularity and there are always surges in them at times.

How many Jennifers do you know? I remember having many in my classes, but no one really uses it now.

I feel the names I hear most often as of right now are Ava, Emma/Emily, Madison, Isabella for girls and boys I hear a lot of Aiden, Liam, Tyler etc....

It's funny because I LOVE the name Ava. DH said no because it's too "trendy". However I could care less about "trendy". I think they are all beautiful names which is why they're popular :)

My son is John...the most common name years ago and now it's not even on the top 20 names for boys...he is the only John I know, lol...

If you like it, go for it! Thats my theory!

**Wanted to add....I posted not to say they are "overused" rather that they're popular. I don't think a name could be overused. To each family, the name is unique!!

Re: Baby Names You Think May Be Overused?

As a mother of a Sophia at first I hesitated due to the name's popularity. But then I knew I would regret not using the name for the rest of my life.

I do think however a question like this may cause some hurt feelings.

to the original poster..don't feel bad posting questions you want the answers too.....i feel bad bc she probably feels bad now that she hurt feelings but in the first sentance of her post she said this was jjust her opinion....she wasnt saying they are gross names and no one should use them....its personal preference.....i personally love the name sophia and it was on our top list for girls if we had girls.....but especially on a board like this no one should feel bad poosting any questions..e.specially when they are basically apologizing in the beg. of post....we are supposed to be able to post freely and get valuable repliies from people....if people don't want to read certian posts..thhen just skip it....move on and read the next...JMO.....hugs to original poster!

Thanks 2peas.

I think we should be able to discuss all types of topics here. It's what makes a forum fun and engaging.

Definitely not trying to start any conflicts or controversial topic. But hey, if you're sensitive to the question, feel free to not even open the thread or answer...

I'm naming my son Alex and lord knows that name is way overused but hell, who cares? It's the only one DH and I both like...

Re: Baby Names You Think May Be Overused?

I'm actually disappointed since the names that I've loved forever are sooo popular and the reason why I originally liked them was because they weren't as popular! Ie: Mia, Grace, Jack, etc. I love those names but now I just feel like when our kids get older they will be as common as Jennifer and Michael, KWIM?

Personally for me it's the name RYan and I LOVE the name...but then my brother used it, there are 2 Ryans on our block, my cousin and two friends. I have been Ryan'd out in my life....so we decided not to pick it.

I still love it though!

Re: Baby Names You Think May Be Overused?

I don't know if 'overused' is the right word - I'd say popular.

But it's a personal thing, some people love a name and could care less, others (like me) have a 'thing' about it .......for me I think it's b/c I was literally the ONLY Marisa in my entire school up until about 11th Grade, and the other Marisa was named b/c her parents were friends with mine and liked the name Chat Icon
Same w/ my sister's name, Alexis. - NOW it's more popular, but when we were growing up, it wasn't at all, which I loved. - When people said Marisa or Alexis, it was me or my sister w/o question - I was never a Marisa M or Marisa K or whatever ........KWIM? *I* really liked that so I'm trying not to give my child a very popular name.

Jack and Ava have been my favorite names for years .......Like when we were kids and you'd say 'what are you going to name your future babies" - at 12 years old, Mine were Jack and Ava .....Chat Icon
I still LOVE the names, but now they have become SO popular again I don't want to use them. -

Same here. But I'm not insulted with the Ryan post. I know it's popular but we loved so much Chat Icon I would think any of the top 20 names on the SS website would fall in this category??

Re: Baby Names You Think May Be Overused?

Before I was PG with DS, I thought I was original. We loved Ethan and Emma. #1 and #3 on the 2006 list. So much for originality! But we did not know anyone with kids except my BIL with my niece. We still loved the names regardless and used it for DS

this means a lot to dh and i. for ds we liked lots of names that we went on to cross off our list because they were too common (according to the social security website). we just don't want our kids to know lots of other kids with the same name.

having said that... to each his own

Re: Baby Names You Think May Be Overused?

my daughter's name is Isabella and it is definately popular - i wouldn't say overused.

DH and I did not mind how common or popular the name is. as long as you love it and want it for your child- u pick it. we loved the name for years and b/c it became popular we didnt back down on it.

I know! But I had my heart set on the name Grace since I was a teenager(its my Grandmother's) so I went with it anyway. Then I realized that we actually know very few where I live. Now we are debating Jack- again to honor my DH's Uncle who basically helped raised him after his father died. Very popular a couple of years ago but kind of died off recently.

BTW- you named both of my children's names, one already and one possibly future and I am not offended Chat Icon Definately agree but am beginning to think its silly not to use them since they are popular. I would rather honor the people we love than worry about that.
