Are you kidding me? What am I supposed to do !!***UPDATE**

Ok so I live in a co-op and 2 yrs ago we fixed the whole place up to put it on the market ! When we moved in we had tile flooring in the kitchen and dining room so we had a contrator pull up the old floor and put in pergo ! That was 2 yrs ago and we got permits for everything to be done !!
Now 2 yrs later ... Today we get a letter from the management company saying we need to rip up all the flooring in the diningroom and put in carpeting And I have .. get this... 10 freakin days to get it done !! And what money tree they think I am going to get it from is beyond me !! We have these new board members who are retired and have nothing better to do except make my life miserable !! I have 3 kids and I dont have the money for this I just dont know why they didnt tell me this before we did it !!!!!!!!!!! And yes I live upstairs but it wasnt an issue for the 9 yrs I have been here !!!

Ok so I totally believe things happen for a reason
The other day I came home from work at 2:30 am and as I am walking home I notice my Super. in the boiler room , so I approach him and explain to him the situation ! He says to me " I don't get why she complaining about this now? this is ridiculous, just throw down an area rug and I will talk to her!" I am so relieved that I don't have to rip my floor up and put carpeting down oh yeah and the Super wasnt even supposed to be there ,there was another maintenance guy oncall but never answered his beeper !!!

i would contest it. i should show them all the paperwork and the permits that you got only 2 years ago to get it done. i would fight them on this one.

are you on the second floor? Usually on the second floor a certain % has to be carpeted. Maybe you can put down an area rug?

Oh I am going to !! The only problem is the president of the board is you know what ! Plus he is trying to give us a $100 fine for our AC units in the windows but we took them out months ago

Right !! And they decided to change the % after we redid everything

so,with the management companies approval 2 years ago, you made the changes?

i know all to well with stupid management companies..this is 1 and only reason we sold our place...its not worth it..

if they changed the percentage after you made the change, and with permits, then you should be grandfathered in.

Legally I think you should be grandfathered in and even if you aren't, they need to give you more than a week.


We are on the 2nd floor and have hardwood floors throughout. We have area rugs down and that covers the percentage and rule just fine. Try Home Depot. We got a gorgeous huge rug for our living room for $100!

I don't think that they can tell you that you need wall to wall carpeting. It's 80% of the floor that needs to be covered. Why don't you get a rubber pad and area rug for that room.
You can even get one of those apartment rugs they sell at home depot rolled up.

Has this been brought up a board meeting before? Did your neighbors ever complain to you before?
10 days is ridiculous.

They want to meet someone if they are staying with you for more than 1 week?

My co-op has a 80% carpeting rule, but you are not required to have wall to wall carpeting. We have area rugs.

I agree that you should be grandfathered in as well. If you MUST I would just get an area rug and call it a day
