Are any moms out there that used to smoke, then quit and went back because of the stress of having a newborn???

Please dont flame, but Im so unhappy about myself because I did this both with my DD and now with my DS.

Once my DD outgrew the fussy newborn stage, I quit because it took a toll on my body plus i dont want to be a smoker.

The thing is that the stress just drives me to smoke especially with a demanding toddler.

ME !! I quit w/ all of them ,then went back ! I am smoking again now !!

Me. I haven't gone back but since having DS there has been two occassions where the stress got to me and I asked DH for a cig. I had two puffs and that was it.

I'm not gonna lie, everyday I deal with the urges. I'm scared of going back and don't want to, but I do think about smoking every single day.

OMG I'm soooooo thrilled you posted this... I did the second after I stopped BFing....and I'm so upset with myself for doing it!

I went back too! Youre not alone, Im know people have very strong opinions on this and thats OK, I understand.

However, I quit when I got my BFP and started back up when DS was a year, so I quit for almost 2 years.

I didnt start bc of stress, I did the old "Its been so long, I can have just one" trap. One became two, two became three, etc. I still only smoke at work and after DS goes to bed. Ive never smoked around him or if Im going to be around him and never in the house.

But still....I hate myself for starting up again, its an addiction you will never get over, even after you quit.

Dont beat yourself up over it, none of us want to be smokers, its just really really really really hard not to be. You would think having DC would be motivation enough to quit, right? Its not, but its enough that I have horrible guilt every time I light up.

I will quit again, and Im sure you will too.

I quit smoking many many years ago, and I told my husband when DD was about 3/4 weeks old not to be surprised if he comes home one day and finds me outside with a cig in my hand!

I have not, nor will ever pick up smoking again, but with that stress, the urge was and sometimes still is there!

i did with my ds, he was so colicky and miserable i couldnt take the stress....i PROMISED myself i wouldnt after my dd..and since i had cancer at 28, i would never smoke again..

I quit soon as I found I was pregnant with DD and I lasted a whole 10 months and now she is 6wks and with her being so colic and I have been so stressed and exhuasted I had 4 cigs since then and I am so upset with myself but frustrated.

I haven't told any family or friends. I don't want to hear it from them.

I also quit when I got my BFP. After having DS, I nursed so I didn't want to have any nicotine in my system (apparently it passes through breast milk even more than to the placenta when you are pregnant ). I knew I wanted to get pregnant again rather soon so I didn't pick up even one after weaning. I remember how hard it was the first time to quit and I didn't want to go through that again.
I can not honestly say what will happen after I wean DS. DH still smokes and as much as it bothers me, I get it.

Quitting smoking is the hardest thing in the world. Try not to beat yourself up for lighting up again. Instead give yourself a pat on the back for being able to stop while pregnant. Many women cannot - but YOU did. Your will and desire to quit will one day be strong enough to do it again, and you will.

I went back after having my son too. Never became a F/T smoker like I was, but had them here and there and more then I would want ...thankfully just finding out I was PG was all I needed to quit cold turkey but I worry and hope I have the strength to never smoke again in my life.

NO ONE would ever flame you. Any past smokers ( or current) understand the addiction and how hard it is...

So feel proud of what you have done and how far you have come and allow others to support you now in making sure you overcome what you need to.
