I used to wait tables, and it is tough work, more so when people try to stiff you.

Hmmm... I am torn on this one. On one hand, it seem harsh to fire this waitress. On other hand: imagine if one of us posted a work document pertaining to a client on a public media site. What do you think would happen to that person?

Re: Applebee's Controversy- Anyone see this?

Thinking about this more.....so he wanted to secretly abuse her and mistreat her (b/c IMO what he wrote was VERY provocative and abusive, knowing she was powerless in the matter when she got the receipt), and then has the nerve to get her fired? Wow. Real man of God he must be.

It was a large party so the restaurant added 18%, the zero was on the additional tip line.

But he crossed out the 18% restaurant-added tip and gave $0 instead of it. He clearly gave no tip at all. Here's a picture of the receipt:

How could it be a large party? The bill was just about $35. Am I missing something?

As a former waitress, I'd gladly get fired for putting this cheap "pasthole" on blast. Not getting a tip, fine, been there, done that, it happens, but this holier than thou condescension deserves public embarrassment.

Who cares what they spent, the point is this guy being a dickk whether it was a $5 tip or a $50 tip.

Agreed! And by getting the girl fired, he probably made this story 10x what it would have been. I hope he is humiliated for being such a condescending jackasss

Applebee's Controversy- Anyone see this?

I think it was a chic.. and she/he is a total jerk and SHOULD be embarrassed that they wrote that. MORE so as a pastor!

I think its horrible that waitress got fired. I think that pastor owes her an apology.

How presumptuous to say "I give god 10% why should you get 18%" and obviously she wanted to rub it in the waitress's face that she was a pastor as she put that on after the fact. I'm not sure it was a very christian thing to do and once she was outted she should have shown humility, not gone off and complain to Applebees that what she did was true.

As far as the waitress goes.. I"m fairly sure there's a social media clause somewhere in her employee book. I have one at my day job and Michael's.

Heard this this morning. This is a women not a man. I probably wouldn't see much of an issue if she gave a tip 10% or 5% even. What a B.

Re: Applebee's Controversy- Anyone see this?

Since when does G-d have a bank account and bills to pay ?

Pastor doesn't give G-d 10%, Pastor tithes 10% to the church for its operating funds and probably to pay her own salary.

I think the pastor was being a sanctimonious beeyotch. Perhaps she balked at having gratuity automatically added?

Either way, while I feel bad for the waitress I believe she deserved to be fired. I understand she was angry but posting customer info on the Internet is a huge no-no and the company could not take that risk of liability.

Applebee's Controversy- Anyone see this?

There is no identifiable information on this part of the receipt. I think it is bull that she got fired. The pastor feels foolish and made a big stink about it. The employee should have gotten a warning but not fired.

I'm all for tipping but since when does a restaurant tell you what to tip? Is this new?

The signature is on there. I think that she should have redacted the signature and then she would have been fine.

Re: Applebee's Controversy- Anyone see this?

This pastor has some set of balls.

If you don't know that when you eat with a large group the tip automatically gets tacked on, you have no business eating out. And if you have a problem with the waitress's service that you feel she doesn't deserve that tacked on tip, you call a manager over and deal with the issue right there and then. And on a further note, if you're going to be all high and mighty on someone and write a note like that on the bill, don't be stupid enough to pay with a credit card and leave your name.

The waitress was wrong in publicly posting the note, however, for the pastor then to go back to the restaurant and get the woman fired-what kind of Christian are you? Would this pastor enjoy it if her parishioners stopped giving donations every Sunday because they didn't think the sermon was worth it? This woman is not practicing what she preaches.

This whole thing just makes the pastor look like the moron. And she should be embarrassed as hell, which I'm sure is what the real issue is. She didn't like to be put in her place.

Most places will add a gratuity when it's a large party-usually 6 or more people- of 15-18%. It's often stated on the menu or posted on the wall somewhere.

I believe there were 5 kids- also, this was Missouri, I believe, so things are probably cheaper.

Anyway, this 'pastor' is a piece of work. She talked about bringing shame on her church but never said a word about trying to stiff someone probably making $3 a hour.
