Anyone have experience with selling diamonds in the diamond district?
There is one place in particular that I have contacted about selling some diamonds and I'm just waiting to hear back. Just curious if anyone had any good/bad experiences.

I sold my old e-ring and also some gold down there. Here is my advise, if the diamond hasn't been appraised yet, get it appraised by a third party, I went to Macys (34th street) Never let them bring you to a guy they now!!!
Once you know how much its really worth,then go to several places, and negotiate, negotiate. They will ALWAYS low ball you at first, dont be afraid to walk away. Is the diamond GIA certified? Make sure you have any certification papers with you. Do NOT let them initmitate you, they can get VERY aggressive! Good LUCK!

Go to at least THREE places to get estimates. Never sell to the first place. (they had a special on the Today show a week or so ago about selling gold, and they said to always get at least three estimates, so I would use the same rationale for diamonds...)

Thanks for the advice! I have two places that I want to go to but I will make sure to get an appraisal first! Thanks!
I know years ago my ex had my e-ring appraised but that was at least 6 years ago.

I agree with this! I went to a few places and ended up bargaining and got almost 2k more than the next closest offer!

I was told by my jewler that this is NOT the time to be selling diamonds.. Can you hang on to it for a little while until the right time comes?

Oh really? Yeah, I can. I'm waiting to hear back from one jeweler that I contacted. I may just go and bring in my stuff and have them take a look at it. But, yeah..I can hang on to it longer if need be.

Good hold out!!!! Sell the gold but not the diamonds. I had a 40k diamond he said I would only get 10k for it.. He said to keep it ..
