Anyone have and open floor plan in their home?
Hi, my DH and I are thinking about putting an offer on a house. It is an expanded ranch adn has an open floor plan - so the kitchen is part of the formal dining room which is also part of a family room and also the living room. I am just curious if anyone has this type of house or is familiar with one. It seems great for entertaining and for children. Any opinions are welcome. TIA

We kind of have an open floor plan - our living room and dining room and kitchen area are all in an L shape. I like it but eventually would want a seperate family room area - but it is a nice layout!

we have an L-shaped "great room"(living/dining) & kitchen. We can fit a large # of people in this area at one time, its great for entertaining. We took a couple of walls down to get this layout. I love it.

same here...I love our open floor plan!!!
our furniture and the way we decorated flows nicely...

the house we may be buying is set up like that. Its one of the reasons we like it so much. The kitchen, formal living room and formal dining room are in one big open space with Cathedral ceilings.

My parents just moved to a place with a somewhat open floorplan - the kithen, breakfast area and family room are all one open space. It's nice and roomy, but one thing my mother doesn't like is if my Dad is in the family room with something on TV that he wants to watch, she's pretty much stuck, with that while cooking dinner. She used to put on the evening news and if he's in the middle of something else she can't put on her own option. That would bother me too, but other than that, the openness is nice.

We have an open floor plan with cathedral ceilings. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!
Makes the house feel huge and spacious. Everything just flows so nice.

The one challenge with an open floor plan is that you have to make the rooms/colors kind of all flow together - but when they do it looks great! I hate it when there is no flow to an open house.
