Anyone feel more cautious of facebook with the baby coming soon?

I've decided to delete a lot of people and groups from my FB that I don't want to have access to baby pictures when the baby is here. I guess it's a little crazy but we live in a crazy world and you never know! I'm also deleting apps, games, and websites - I probably have over 500 different things to delete - you never realize that accepting all those stupid presents from friends and finding out all of those little survey results keeps your info! I don't want people like that having access to all of my stuff!

yes, i do feel a little more cautious too. i did a "spring cleaning" of my "friends" on there and got rid of a lot of people. i haven't even announced the pregnancy on fb yet. im waiting till we find out the gender at the end of this month and then i'll announce it.

Re: Anyone feel more cautious of facebook with the baby coming soon?

DH and I were just talking about this yesterday! A few years ago, I had over 1,000 friends on Facebook, and--through the years--I deleted almost 90% of those people. The only people I have on FB now are friends, family, people that I hope to network with, and a few LIW/LIF ladies. I go through my list every couple of months to take more people off. I know some people think of being deleted as a FB friend as an insult, but honestly, I'm just realistic and want to keep my list to people that I actually talk to; I feel much safer that way!

No -
I simply don't post pictures of my son online - at all. ESPECIALLY facebook -
I don't care HOW private you think your setting are, or who you 'think' you've allowed access to your pictures - it's on the internet - ANYONE can get in and see them -

I've been doing the same thing. Since I live so far away from my family, it's the only way they will get to see our little one from pictures and videos.

I've been deleting friends I barely talk to and ensuring my groups are set up, so I can still stay in touch with some people, but not give them access to the family photos, etc.

Go to account, privacy setings
Then under Apps and websites click edit your settings
Then you can delete all of them

I couldn't believe how many stupid "bumper sticker," "Which Bon Jovi song are you?" "Valentine's Day hearts" crap I had!

I also edited my info on my profile - like celebrity pages and other junk you subscribe to where they can see your info. Go to your profile page, then click info. You can edit under activities and interests and any other parts you want to delete.

This is exactly how I feel. I want no pictures of my children online at all.

when I was about 9 months pregnant I went through and deleted A TON of people. People basically that I've gone to school with and such but haven't spoken a word to me in forever. I just didn't want everyone to stalk my baby Chat Icon

I guess I'm the odd person out. I have a lot of family that I don't get to see, so the only way they would see my son is through facebook.

I do have people that cannot access my pictures even though they are my "friends"

I'm pretty private when it comes to FB. I don't add just anyone and everyone to my friend list, it's all people I know fairly well. I don't post anything really personal and have my settings pretty private.

My question is though- Why is everyone afraid to post pics of their babies? I'm honestly curious, what is the reason for the fear? What do you think someone will do with a picture of an infant? I don't totally follow this.

Re: Anyone feel more cautious of facebook with the baby coming soon?

Im curious for those who don't plan on putting your DC on facebook or posting pictures online. What about it makes you uncomfortable?

I think I'm looking at it from the wrong perspective, in my head I don't see anything wrong with it. Everyday your DC will walk the world and thousands of people will see them so how is that any different? Is it that you feel someone will use them for something less than wholesome?

I'm probably in the minority....

These things don't bother me and I am pretty selective with who I am "friends" with...Of-course if a "bad person" wants to get in , they will find a way....

Someone can also follow me home one day from the bus-stop or supermarket...It's the world we live in and I won't live in fear because of the "what ifs"

I won't be posting any pics of LO online. To me that's totally different than walking around Target. On here, some people give out WAY too much info it's irresponsible. I'm not an active poster, but I can see some kids from here IRL and know their name, siblings names, parents names, parents workplace, where they go to daycare, where they live...there are thousands of lurkers on this site. And I'm sure not all are "wholesome". I'm not taking chances.

I totally agree with you on the LIF part (which is why I have no pics or personal info up) but what I don't understand is the no pics on FB thing. The way I look at it is people can only know what you're willing to put out there. I still don't understand what posting a picture without other identifying info is going to do though (on FB, not here).

I am paranoid about this.

I do not plan on posting any baby pics here or there. I may get off FB all together when the baby comes. I don't know the whole idea of it worries me for some reason.

Re: Anyone feel more cautious of facebook with the baby coming soon?

I'm not too worried, because I have a very limited amount of friends on FB, that mainly consist of people I went to HS with, college with, some LIW girls, and family. Anyone who I felt was creepy that I didn't want seeing my stuff I had deleted prior to my wedding, because I felt uncomfortable about them seeing pics or details. So I'm pretty ok with my current crop, and I don't accept apps, so I think I'm fine.

Re: Anyone feel more cautious of facebook with the baby coming soon?

I have been super careful of who I accept as a friend since got FB, and I say No to friend requests all of the time! I also never open those stupid gifts from friends, and rarely allow any FB apps to access my personal info, and I always check that all of my settings are set to the most privte they can be.

With that being said, we live in a technological society and I cannot wait to put pics and vids on FB of my LO for my friends and family to see!

Also, our LOs will be growing up surrounded by FB, iPhones, Flip videos cams, digital cameras, and the technology is only going to grow as they do...we can't protect them from it all, so I think it is better to learn how to share info responsibly, and then teach them to do the same, then to completely block it out!
