Anyone feel like this at family gatherings?

My DD is only 3 1/2 months old. In my eyes, she's still tiny. I know that tomorrow, she's going to get passed around like a hot potato. Everytime someone in DH's family holds her, she tends to cry. They will continue to hold her, even when she is screaming. I feel weird taking her away from them, but at the same time, I don't like to see her in discomfort. I know I'm probably overeacting, but it bothers me when someone takes her to a completely different place in the house without me knowing. And to top it all off, I have to go back to work on Monday. So, I think I'm feeling a bit more possessive of her for that reason also. But, then again, I guess I should be thankful for her having a family that loves her.Chat Icon

My family is one of those families as well... I don't have any advice on how you should/shouldn't feel, but I know that with us, when the baby in question gets very fussy, we automatically bring him/her back to mommy.... NO one knows better how to soothe bebe than the mommy!

My DD is old enough now that she doesn't get cradled by everyone but when she was younger, I had no reservations about taking her from people. If she was crying, I'd just say, "oh, I'll take her" and I would do just that. If she's going to cry with someone, it's going to be DH or I not Aunt Bessie that she just met. I really don't care what other people think; I am the mother.

I was the same way with Julia, its totally normal to feel that way. I use to hate passing her around when the family was together cause she would cry and they would just stand there holding her crying, instead of bringing her over to me. I had no problems though taking her away once she got like that. It does get fustrating! It does get better as they get older. Chat Icon

HEck, I would purposly go when I knew it was nap time so the kids would stay asleep while we were there.

That's funny! I'm hoping she'll be napping her usual times anyway so it won't be a tough night for her. (and us)

ITA, DS is goign thru this same stage right now, he almost always cries if anyone other than DH or I hold him.

When he does cry, I take him back, I really don't care if they like it or not, but I will not stand by while my DS is crying.
