SPR: Do you ever feel like a family member is always trying to "one up you"? (long)
This is probably going to sound petty, and keep in mind that I find it funny, but I am curious as to how many people have family members like this.
My SIL (DH's sister) is constantly trying to "beat" us at life. When I first met DH's family it was at their reunion and she was single when we got there and by the end of the week she was in love with this guy she had just met (our now BIL). DH says this is b/c he told her he was going to marry me and she said "No way is my little brother getting married before me". So, we got engaged, two weeks later they got engaged. I started planning my wedding for January 2006, she started planning her wedding for September 2005 (this was January 05) and then she got pregnant and moved her wedding WAY up.
Now it is little things, every time I send out pictures of DS, she sends out pictures of my neice. We plan something, she plans something BIGGER. And now she is trying to get pregnant so she can announce it at the reunion next month.
Now, honestly, I like my SIL and I take this all with a grain of salt, and it makes for some good stories, but am I the only one?

That would really annoy me. But, if you see it I'm sure others do too. And, like you said, take it with a grain of salt. Obviously she needs to feel "competitive" to be happy, so whatever. But it can be frustrating.

go take some fertility pills and when she announces her pregnancy, you annoucen your pregnant with triplets! hows that for one-upping someone!?!
