yes...my MIL never bought us gifts...so we stopped buying her gifts....then one year she decides to buy gifts for us... ohh well...she got nothing that year!!

Funny you say that-
My inlaws do not "believe" in buying gifts. They just throw money in an envelope and say.. "Merry Christmas" Poor Anthony never got gifts as a kid... so friggen sad
I just feel that its just pure lazyness.

My inlaws buy for the grandkids. The whole family does a secret Santa which they are included in so they don't buy gifts for their own kids (unless they pick their name!). I don't think they should be involved in it- I think they should be buying for their kids and the kids should be buying for them.  My personal opinion.

with my MIL...you never know...some years we get gifts, others we dont. Sometimes you get a bday card, sometimes you don't.
It's very weird for me because in my family you always get something and it is strictly enforced....

I mean, I know they were in a money slump for a while...but DHs bday was in October n she just gave him a card...
Definitely odd... I know a ton of people who are on tight budgets and everything else- but they give their own son, even if it's something small, but they give him SOMETHING for his birthday-- and they, at least, buy gifts for the grandkids... I mean, times are tuff but you gotta do what you gotta do! How do they not feel weird when everyone else is giving and receiving? Has your DH ever asked them what's the deal with that?

As a grandparent, I find it odd not to buy something for your grandchildren, even if it is only one small thing. They may be experiencing money difficulties that no one is aware of and may just have enough to get by.

they got a few toys, but nothing major.....
thats why i like to buy him a lot of gifts

My family exchanges gifts-- but DH's does not- at least not in a traditional way. I know that MIL is getting me something-- I am not sure if she is getting DH something, but they prefer that I do not get them a gift-- but I don't like not getting somethign for someone who gets me something. No grandchildren yet-- but I would suspect they would still get gifts for them.
