This house in Kings Park dropped $24K in about a month, maybe less.

We looked at that house and were seriously considering buying it, but we found a house we liked better. It's got a huge kitchen and is in a great little area. The basement is great also.
The people were really nice too - I'm sad they haven't been able to sell it yet....

Theres a house that I LOVED when I drive by it all the time. We aren't really planning on moving but if we found something gREAT we might so I keep my eyes open. I called the realtor on this House

I was like Chat Icon I was so annoyed that these people were listing their house for this much(3 BD, double yellow line, small extra bd's, etc)m I wrote an e-mail to the RE agent. What do you all think? The house is very cute from the outside but i think 450 would be a fair price for it

Compare it to This
which is 10K cheaper

I bookmark houses on MLSLI with the selling price, taxes, and date - does anyone else do this and find the prices going down by as much as 30K?!

What's the largest amount you've seen a seemingly decent house go down?

ETA: Yes I do this too. Many of the houses in my bookmarked have come down.

This is my contribution. This house is on my block (we are renting) It has been on the market atleast 6 months, and it has dropped 149K. It was originally listed for 698!!!

Re: Are you watching any houses go down - by 30k!

It also depends on the sellers. Some are very unrealistic. We actually made an offer on a house that was 40k lower than their asking price back in June. They declined, saying they could only take 15k lower. Since then, we've decided to expand instead of move. They are still trying to FSBO for the same asking price as in June. They also listed with a realtor a couple months ago, and the price just dropped... to 40k less than their asking price. They could have had that from us four months ago!!!

Amy, I feel like that's happening a lot in oceanside! The houses are so overpriced that they end up selling for over $100k less than the original asking price. There was one recently in the oceanlea area that was up for $529 (around there) and ended up selling for $440!! And it was a major dump.

Re: Are you watching any houses go down - by 30k!

I think that the main reason for the drop is that people had overinflated ideas about the value of their houses. And some realtors promised to get them a lot of $$. Even when houses were at an all time high, I saw some that dropped a lot because the owners got in their minds to list at a price that was way too high to begin with. If you like a house and want to make an offer, don't even think about what it was listed for before TODAY. I don't think that a drop is a negative reflection on any particular house.

They are definitely dropping. My friend looked at a house in June in Oakdale that was $525K, she made an offer of $425K in late July and they told her no way, in September they came back with $475K (she was the only offer) and they settled and went to contract at $450K - she ends up paying $75K less for the house, not a bad deal!

This house has dropped over 100!!!!!...We went to an open house on a whim about 6 months ago and it was well overpriced. Its a nice house but I think it still needs to drop a bit.

We've been watching this house:

http://www.mlsli.com/uniDetails.CFM?MLNum=1872815&saveid=359200&typeprop=1

And in the last 2 months (at least) it has gone down $30,000! The skeptic in me wonders why... It's north of the train station in Northport, is on a .37 lot, the kitchen isn't ultra-modern but it's obvious it's been upgraded, it has a basement, and the house looks very clean to me.

It's things like this that give me hope that we'll be able to comfortably afford a house next year when we're ready.

What's the largest amount you've seen a seemingly decent house go down?

this house is adorable. my husband and i took a look at it. needs A LOT of work but it is definitely doable. huge property. great area!!! too small for us and the kiddies though..good luck to you!!!

Happening in VA too... the townhome by us started at $442k in July, then dropped to $417K at the beginning of September, and I just checked yesterday and it's down to $399K.

Keep dropping prices!

Re: Are you watching any houses go down - by 30k!

This house cannot sell either - Was for sale last summer when we were looking - It is on N Jerusalem - Thats whats killing the sale - need to lower the price to get some offers coming in

This house was originally $469k, and then went down to $449k, and then $439k, and now $419k. Supposedly they are going through a divorce and need to sell the house - my friend was interested in it until he found out the taxes are close to $10k, but that is because the house is blown up...and all redone.

This one has gone down $20k. It has been on the market since this past summer - house is empty.

This house was bought for $369k at the beginning of this year, then fully redone, and they want $469k. They will not lower their price, and they cannot sell it at the current price, so they are now renting it out.

This house was originally high $500's then $514k and now $470's....Its very outdated on the inside, but huge. I looked at it for my friend in the spring

Flip house - Not sure what it was sold for in the past - but it is on center lane - and I think it is highly over priced

On gardners lane - busy street - over priced

This house is down $100k - new construction home

Bellmore - down $50k

Down $20k

Price has been the same - been on the market for almost a year

This house is hurting. Danielle and I went to look at it in the spring, because her father saw the open house in the newspaper and said to go check it out. Well it has a nice 2 car garage, really cheap pergo floors that were new and already lifting, a bathroom that was "redone", New tiles, Pink toilet, bath, and white vanity and sink. - The rear enclosed Patio was about to fall down, there is no yard at all....and the bedrooms are very small. The house has a very odd layout, and there is no dishwasher either....very cheap flip. The sales guy shows up driving an 80's Ferrari 308Gtb.....Thought it was Magnum PI for a minute....Oh yeah its on a busy road

Been on the market for 2 years - dont know why - they dont lower the price

Down from $619k - love this house

3 family - down from $615k

This house cannot sell - been for sale for 2 years - It is behind the hess gastation on merrick road in bellmore -
