Social Distancing out the window?

We just ran into Home Depot and when we are walking out there was a lady right up DH butt. Close enough that if he stopped she would have walked into him. She was wearing a mask and even gloves. Like if you are that concerned about catching it then back the eff up.

I also noticed 2 restaurants by me have these large tents set up in their parking lots but they keep the sides closed. How is that different then eating inside?

Inside is opening this week anyway but maybe they open them when people are dining?

Re: Social Distancing out the window?

I was at the beach today and signs said to stay 6 ft apart in the water and 10 feet between beach blankets but people were still sitting right up on top of others. I hate that in a normal day....there is a whole vast expanse of beach...why do you have to sit right near me?
The worst was a group of college aged kids. There were at least 20 of them all arriving at different times hanging out in a huge group...kissing and hugging hello. They clearly had zero fuks to give. That's why colleges need to go back to on-site learning...they are all hanging out in huge groups anyway

Lol yep! I had DD dig a huge hole too. I spread a blanket that we don't even sit on. I've been doing this forever though because people know no boundaries at the beach!

And it's like no matter how close you get to the water, someone strolling in at 2pm will try to squeeze in front of you. Its so obnoxious.

Why do people do this???? And it’s always the people that yell-talk. So you can’t even ignore them bc they are just screaming loud conversation at each other for 4 hours. Chat Icon

Yes it seems people have decided that it's safe to carry on as normal. Sleepovers and playdates are back on. Beach and back yard get togethers are back on. Chatting on sidewalks and taking over the entire sidewalk..back on. Wearing masks but up people's ass? It's on.

The only way to avoid is to stay in your own pre made bubble and do not succumb to peer pressure.

Omg yes! We were talking about this today. I told DH and I am not even joking that next time we go to the beach I am bringing earplugs. I like to read and can't concentrate.
And it's always one person in a party that is the mouth piece of the group and talks NON STOP and loud
I thought maybe it was a weird acoustic phenomenon at the beach where voices carry more on the breeze. Because its insane how I can hear every word of people's conversations!
Glad I am not the only one who notices this!!!

How long are we supposed to wait? I have been out of the office going on 4 months now. Didn’t see family and friends for 3 months. No one was sick, almost all essentials. We all did our part and still will wear masks where needed but life has to go on. Viruses will never go away and never did. People will always get sick. Never stopped anything before this.

The lady that was my up husband's ass today was wearing both a mask AND gloves. If you have a need to wear gloves in the store then back off my husband and stay 6 ft apart. Its fine if you want to go out but don't infringe on our personal space because you think things are back to normal. Be respectful of other people and maintain your distance. And the sides of the tents were down while the tables were full of diners. It was most likely to give privacy from the cars in the parking lot but I think it defeats the whole purpose of outdoor dining being safer at this point.

Social Distancing out the window?

People are really going to regret it when in the Fall we are all back to being quarantined. Why can't people just follow the rules. Wear a mask and in public stay 6 feet apart. It's not that hard. They need to start making this a true law. The only way people will start paying attention is if they start getting fines.

There was someone so close to me at the supermarket today! You are supposed to wait until the cashier calls - after they scan all of my items - but no - she was still scanning and he was right next to me (on express). Closer than I like people
To be normally!

Re: Social Distancing out the window?

I think people are done. A lot of people are treating it like the flu. Everyone with their vitamins and special homemade concoctions for immunity health. Some of those people never thought it was a thing to begin with.

I think we did our part for 3 months and now should slowly return to some sort of normalcy. We see friends now. Not in large groups but another couple or 2 at one of our homes. We are all clean people who disinfect before and after we have company. We’ve stopped kissing hello and goodbye to be a little more cautious. And we’re never on top of each other anyway. We’re adults who can stand far enough apart while still spending time together.

Just do what you think is best for yourself and your family and at your own pace. Some are just further along than others. I know I’m in no hurry to eat at a restaurant in their parking lot but others are salivating at the idea. So I won’t go but they can. At this point, To each their own. We cannot expect the world To stop for much longer than it did.

Social Distancing out the window?

When I grew up here on Long Island, we all needed to follow family & local rules. even if we didn't like it. When did rules just go out the window? I don't care if you don't like it. Follow the damn rules! Chat Icon

And even if you don’t like wearing a mask—at least have respect for the other human beings that have to work at these stores and be around 500 people a day. Deal with it for 20 minutes for them.

My friend owns a small business that has a sign on the door that you must wear a mask to enter. She said she’s lost count of the people that burst in without a mask and start screaming at her. When did people become such animals?

Everyone I've seen at stores has been following social distancing but I have noticed stores much more crowded. People are more comfortable and are loosening up so what are your options?

I can't fathom this. What are they yelling at her? Complaining about the mask? That's a state mandate, not her mandate.
Everywhere i have gone people have had their marks on. Yesterday at dinner every single person who came wore their masks to their table and only removed them once seated. Then when leaving wore them to walk out.
Same thing at the beach. Most people wore a mask to get to and from their cars to their area they would be setting up their chairs etc. And everyone had on a mask in the bathroom.
Some even wore a mask while walking alone by tbe water....
I have yet to see these mask scofflaws. I guess I've been lucky

For how long though are we required not to see other people? They don’t even know much about this virus but it was ok to close us all up for months and have people lose their salaries and businesses.
I will wear a mask where I am told I am needed to but no place else as I can’t compromise my immune system any longer for something they truly don’t know much about.

Usually they scream at her that it’s their “constitutional right“ to not wear a mask. They’re all a bunch of nutballs.

I’ve been to a few stores now and everyone has been wearing masks and acting reasonable. Although I did go to the local beach last week (not state beach) and absolutely nobody was wearing masks except the guy at the entrance booth. My kids were very displeased to wear them to and from the car.

Social Distancing out the window?

There were 44 new cases on Suffolk County yesterday. I think at this point we can ease back into life. We have been seeing people as of recently, but using our same precautionary measures such as hand washing and sanitizing. At some point life has to get back to normal. If you aren't comfortable, continue to stay home, order groceries online etc. No one is going to care.

Oh and remember how everyone kept saying they were going to see this huge Spike in numbers for Memorial Day, from the protests etc. Where are those numbers? It's just not happening.

I heard the same about Easter and Mother's Day too. Then the protest and Memorial Day like you said.
And yet, nothing. Perhaps it's a good sign?

I don’t stay isolated in my house. We are outside all day. I’ve brought my son to the park but we’ve worn masks and socially distance best we can. We go on daily bike rides, runs and walks. I go to stores when necessary and wear a mask. I just don’t have BBQs with multiple families or go to crowded places. I am not concerned about my immune system. It’s not like it forgets how to make WBCs and antibodies. We are planning on getting together with family soon, but I am not rushing it. We will meet up outside. Covid-19 is not over.
