7-Year-Old Girl Question

So a little about my DD...she'll be 7 next month and is very "babyish". Still very into princesses, Muppet Babies, etc.

For her birthday party, she wants to have a princess party, with the guests dressed as princesses.

Do you think this is babyish? Like the girls who are invited will not want to dress up? DD is one of the younger ones in her grade. I'm probably over-thinking this. I don't know if I should try to sway her to choose another theme. I want DD to be happy with her bday party, but I don't want her guests to tease her about this or anything. TIA

I don't think that's babyish at all for 7. I mean yeah, there are 7 year olds that have Instagram and twitter, and are done with toys by that age. But I think for the most part, many 7 year olds are still into princesses, dolls, etc. As they should be. They are SEVEN.

My DD just turned 7 a few weeks ago and she would have fun at a princess dress up party.

Re: 7-Year-Old Girl Question

My DD just turned 8 and still will dress up with her little sister, and so does the neighbor girl who is 8 as well. So I think 7 is still a good age for it, I know my DD would like it.

Re: 7-Year-Old Girl Question

Idk what the rush is to grow up these days.

I think 7 is a perfect age for a princess party. I know both my nieces were still into princesses at that age. You can also have Tiaras, gloves and necklaces for those that dont come dressed up.

TBH 7 is better because she will most likely remember it when she gets older.

7-Year-Old Girl Question

So... this hits home with me. MY DD Is 6 (7 in a few months) and actually one of the older girls in her class. She told me at the end of the school year that she didn't ant to wear princess shirts bc the kids teased her. I think it was probably the siblings of some of the kids in her K class (who are probably 7/8). It broke my heart bc they are still sooo little and I cant stand the rush to grow up.

That being said I think its great that your daughter is still into princesses (as I believe is age appropriate!). She should have the party she wants and I would hope many of her friends would enjoy a princess party as well, even if not their first choice. Maybe you can make it less character ish and more about pretty make up and jewelry! She knows her friends best- maybe try to talk to her about it

Re: 7-Year-Old Girl Question

I am in the minority but I don't think a princess party would go over well at this age. My daughter is currently 7 turning 8 and hasn't had any princess dresses for a couple of years. She also refuses to wear anything princess themed clothing.

Rather than princess dresses can you make it like she wears a crown and they do spa type activities. Like a real princess vs. dress up princess.

My almost 7 year old is planning her mermaid party.

I think your DD will feel it out. They do discuss these things at school. There will be girls who may not be into it... so who cares? If her friends are into it, go for it!

Look at the kids who love it at Disney!

Ok thanks all, princess party it is! I just got a little nervous because we went to a couple of princess parties when DD was 3-5 years old, but we haven't been to one in several years. I'll embrace the love for princesses while I can Chat Icon

7-Year-Old Girl Question

My daughter is about the same age and she would totally dress up and very happily attend this party. And as others said, they SHOULD. They’re 7. Four years ago she was still wearing diapers!

However I will also say that my daughter has a few friends that are “too cool” and would either roll their eyes at this party or attend and then constantly talk about how they were bored. However these girls tend to do this at every party, even if you had Taylor Swift up on stage.

7-Year-Old Girl Question

My DS is 7 and going into 2nd grade. I can tell you that none of the little girls in his class have been into princesses, or dressed up in princess dresses, since probably the summer between K & 1st grade. So 5/6 years old was the cutoff in his group. However, I find that sad. 7 year olds are still little kids, and I love that your DD is still into that. I say go for it!

I was going to give the same answer. Best of luck! Do what makes your daughter happy!

My oldest is only 6 but she loves everything yours does. She still loves her dress up, tiaras, etc. Maybe you can encourage people to dress up in whatever they prefer whether it's princess, superheroes, rock stars, or whatever they're into.

Re: 7-Year-Old Girl Question

My DD no longer dresses up but to be fair she never really did but with that said if she went to a party and dressing up to a party she will. Now if I had to provide the dress this would be very inconvenient to me because we don't have any that fit her.

I can't believe there are 7 years olds that have twitter and Instagram. That is absolutely ridiculous. My DD asked me if she can have an Instagram and I laughed and told her no not anytime soon. There is no way she is having one at 7. There is no way she is anywhere near being mature enough to be on social media and I can't imagine any 7 year old is!
