I can't even imagine what you must be going through, especially with all the things that are on our minds as parents of small children. Bu tyou have to stay positive...no matter what. I send you many hugs and will keep you and your family in my prayers.
Please get a second and even a third opinion. When it comes to something like this you can't have too many opinions. Remember- doctors are human too and they can make mistakes. I can't believe that this was considered "nothing" for so long and now you are hearing this.

Have you done as much research as you can on this type of cancer? Check the NIH site for clinical trials and contact any researchers there may be on this specific type of cancer. They may help point you toward other doctors who may be able to see you or at least read your chart while you wait for your doctor to return. Don't be afraid to leave NY and to leave MSKCC.
One of my family members deals with a renowned doctor for a different specific type of cancer. The doctor is based in the middle of the Bronx, of all places! You never know where you'll find the right care for you.
