5 yr. old DS screaming about leg pain at night
Last night and tonight DS woke up screaming and crying that his leg hurt. he was like half asleep and totally out of it. Lasted like 5 minutes and fell back asleep. There's no bruising etc on the outside. What could this be? Totally fine during the day. Very strange. Could it be growing pains? I feel terrible.

Maybe a Charlie horse? I've luckily only gotten them a few times in my life, but every time I got one, it was while I was asleep and the pain woke me up. They HURT but then pass rather quickly.
I'd probably check w/ the ped to make sure.

Yes I've had this as well! Hurts so much! Just strange that it's 2 days in a row and hasn't happened before. Possible though, thanks!

sounds like growing pains
My DD - 5 yrs old gets them every once in a while! Apparently very normal and very painful :(

He's so out of it when it happens he can't even pinpoint where the pain is, just keeps saying his leg hurts. Is there anything you can do to ease the pain?

If it is growing pains nothing really unless you want to try pain meds but not sure you want to do that.
From the description though it sounds more like a charlie horse. You get those from dehydration ir low potassium. Try giving him a banana and upping his fluids.

Growing pains I would say. My ds gets them occassionally. Last night he actually woke up complaining of them. I just rub it and hope he goes back to sleep quickly.

Could be growing pains, I had them really bad in my feet as a kid. My mom would have to rub my feet until it went away. Could also be Charlie Horse, try having your LO eat a banana. I had these in my legs at night when I was pg if I didn't eat a banana or something else high in potassium that day.

Probably growing pains. My son also experienced them. He grew about 7 inches in 6 months. You can try motrin and masage, also a heating pad.

usually i just rub her legs...but she often doesnt like that and makes it worse! Sometimes I give her a little tylenol and i think i helps her!

If its a cramp (charlie horse?) have him stand up and put full pressure on his legs. That will make it go away instantly. If it doesn't help then maybe it's growing pains.

Thanks everyone. Both sound like possibilities but I'm thinking it is growing pains since he can't pinpoint exactly where is it.

when i was little i used to get these and my mom would tie long socks around my legs really tightly wherever the pain was. dont know why but it worked

Sounds like growing pains. My son gets them a lot. Only at night time. If it wakes him up multiple times - hen I will give him some motrin which may or may not help.

Growing pains. I have memories of these they hurt so bad. I had pain behind my knees and felt like I needed to stretch my legs.
