30 weeks having contractions...

I posted recently about my cervix shortening from 3.8 to 2.8cm by 29 weeks, so my high risk wanted me to come in for a non-stress test twice a week. So I went in this morning and turns out I am having light or small contractions. He wants me back on Wednesday for another NST and to check my cervix. I know that if this was super serious he probably would have seen me today and not let me just leave for work, but i still feel upset and scaredChat Icon this is my second pregnancy, but my first was uneventful (thank God), so does anyone have any experience or advice to share?

I am only 28 weeks and haven't gone thru this myself.... but I just wanted to wish you good luck...sending positive vibes your way. Just think that the doctors will do anything to keep you from having the baby sooner and I'm sure they will take the proper precautions for that Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: 30 weeks having contractions...

I do not have experience with my cervix shortening but with DS#2 I started having contractions early. About 32wks pregnant I was in L&D contracting every 3mins. They gave me 2 shots to stop the contractions and after a few hours was sent home. I ended up having my son at 37.5wks.

It is scary so if you have any concern please call your doctors office. Better to be safe then sorry. You are not bothering them with any of your concerns...that is what they are there for.

Good luck Chat Icon

I am 32wks now and I already started having strong contractions with this pregnancy but they are not frequent so they won't do anything for me yet.

I would be off my feet bed resting and staying hydrated. Can you ask your dr if he prescribes indomethacin or if there's anything you should be taking to stop the contractions? Good luck!

i agree with this! i am going through the same thing right now. last week at almost 28 weeks my cervix had shortened to 2.9. the doctor put me on strict bed rest and indomethacin and now my cervix is back to 4.1 and all is quiet for now (still on bed rest and meds). i also had a desk job but i honestly think sitting can be just as bad as standing because your uterus is still weighing on your cervix. i'm glad you are seeing your high risk doctor this week. good luck!

Re: 30 weeks having contractions...

Crashing, I did not have a shortening cervix with my #2 but I did start contracting like you described & ended up delivering my DS at 32w5d. By the time I got to L&D, they were able to stop by contractions for 25 minutes & my water broke.

Even though you have a desk job, I would go home & rest. Not sure the age of your other DC, but try to restrain from lifting them until you see your drs again. I swear that lifting my oldest is what set me into labor.

Exacty. Bed rest means laying down bc it takes the pressure of the baby off your cervix. I would be home now for sure. Sitting with your feet up is not enough. Good luck!

Re: 30 weeks having contractions...

Omg I'm nervous now, I'm home alone with dd who is 18 months, dh is at a baseball game. I'm debating calling someone to come help me give her a bath. I'm just laying down and letting Raya wreck the house, I know I need to rest. Ugh!!!
