12 Week Ultrascreen at North Shore. Possible Sex Determination?

Hi girls. I have a question that is kind of specific- but if you didn't have your 12 week sono at North Shore please go ahead and chime in anyway!

So, I read on a bunch of websites that at your 12 week sono or ultrascreen (usually if you are having a boy) it is possible that they will tell you the sex.

I know that at 12 weeks the techinician can make a mistake more easily so they might be apprehensive about telling me what they think they see.

I was just curious about peoples' experiences. TIA

At my ultra screen they couldnt tell (but my appointment wasnt at a hospital) but at 14 weeks I had to get my cervical length checked at LIJ and I asked and the doctor told me he was 99& sure that it was a boy

I had my sono at a different place and the tech told me that she was 99% sure it was a boy...and she was right on the money!!!

Really at 12 weeks its a total gamble. Most u/s technicians wont even venture a guess until 15 weeks...and even then, they can be wrong. My OB wouldnt even check until 20 weeks.

At 13 weeks the sono tech at Madonna Perinatal said that she wouldn't try to guess and that at that point it is a crap shoot. She said that if we wanted to know we should flip a coin. Sorry!

With my first I had my sono at LIJ and the Dr. (not the tech) said he was 85% sure it was a boy and even gave me the pic of the you know what He was right as I have a little boy. This time around the Dr. guessed again - in a month I will knowif they were right. two of my friends had Dr.'s guess boy at their 12 wk sono and both were right.

ETA: I didn't ask - the Dr.asked us if we were finding out and said he had a pretty good guess ( that was the first time) - this time he volunteered but wasn't as sure (maybe b/c he guessed girl)

I don't know about accuracy as we chose not to find out with both pregnancies but at my 12w sono at NSUH Manhasset the dr offered to try and take a guess.

i was 12.5 weeks and my tech said he wouldnt even bother looking

I wouldn't ask, at 12 wks they told me boy and at 19w3d they told me girl...it's hard because even if you know the 12 wk is not that accurate, you picture yourself with a child of that sex...plus I am still not convinced they were right the second time, even though the level 2 is much more accurate, I have one more sono next week at 31 wks and I will be making them check again!

it's such a gamble at 12 weeks that i wouldn't let them guess. i didn't want to get used to one sex and then be surprised at my level 2--i would have been devastated if it was the opposite of what i thought.

so i personally wouldn't.

a sono tech (not at NS) guessed girl for me at 12 weeks. Confirmed BOY at 15wks, 20wks, 30wks, etc.
