i guess time will see if this will actually help but im leaning towards no.
I am really hoping everyone is misunderstanding it and people who weren't making that much money to begin with weekly will not be getting all of this extra money every week. if they do hopefully they dont plan on just saving it and will actually go out and spend it.
Yes. People shouldn't try to get ahead by saving their money. They shouldn't use the money to try to make life better/easier for themselves and their families.

Paying bills does help the economy.
And the bail out from ‘08 did end up working-the economy was fantastic until corona hit.

Yes. People shouldn't try to get ahead by saving their money. They shouldn't use the money to try to make life better/easier for themselves and their families.
Catching up on bills will certainly help the economy but this money will not do what it's intended to do if people put it in a savings account. I am pretty sure that's all she meant by this.

DH and I signed up for UI last week and our first payment came through today. Its based on the old UI numbers this week. The CARES act numbers dont start paying out until 4/5 and I dont think that we will get more then what we were making before. My salary qualifies me for the max on the old numbers ($504/wk) and DH as well. DH is still losing money even with the additional $600 wk but I dont believe that I will be getting $1100/wk. I think that additional $600 is there to help people who make a higher salary stay whole. I will update next week when our checks come in.
Everyone no matter how much you made before who is on unemployment will get an extra $600 a week from the federal government. They tried to base this on income level but it wasnt passed.
While I would love for this to be true, I just dont understand how thats fair- regardless if it will benefit me or not. I will update for sure when the $ comes through this week!

Blue6385, why are you so upset that a poor person might get something? Do you know how much money billionaires are getting that they don’t need to pay back in this bill? It will be millions of dollars. So what a poor person is getting $600 and you are upset they are getting it, meanwhile millionaires and billionaires will be receiving a ton more money. Where is your outrage over that?

Plus honestly the majority of people make more then 1100 a week who are on unemployment. This is a major blessing for most that will allow them to continue to pay their bills!

Are all of you serious right now I am mad at poor people?  
Because my point all along is that if they were surviving before they should be able to survive now with out getting 2xs what they are making.
Do you realize that I am sure plenty of young people living at home who had jobs not making tons of money will now be getting paid all this extra money! cause yeah they really need it!!
I rather see that money got to first responders and all essential workers then to blindly give everyone $600 extra a week even if they weren’t making that much!!
I don’t know how many times I have to say I am ok with giving people who were making that much the extra money.
Because I can see a better use of the money I hate poor people. (By the way I am not rich or even well off.)

ETA : I am mad at the incompetent elected officials not poor people still doesn’t change the fact it’s absolutely ridiculous that everyone is just blindly getting $600 without actually really needing it!!

The thing is all of the people you want are also getting money allocated to them in this bill. It is not forever. It is for 4 months. So yes, a young person working might get a few extra dollars. Good for them. I really don't understand why you are upset with it. Frankly, they are giving money to middle class people too. Even if they dont loose their jobs. The only people not getting money are those making over $200k a year. Small business owners will get money too. So the only people not getting money are people who work for a living making over 200k, and most people at that salary range don't really need an extra 1200.

minimum wage for 40 hrs a week is approx $500. 11.80 an hr in NY.
$250 a week is like $6 an hour.
Maybe this policy gives more to lower income workers than "fair" They're also the hardest hit, first to get let go, and with less options.
You are arguing about poor people getting an extra few $$ while we are giving large relief to corporations and the economy burning down.
You want to help businesses, especially local businesses, the best way to do that is to have people in the lower/middle bracket with extra money... they will spend it, which will give money to those running the businesses which will spend it, rinse and repeat and the economy gets going.

I was using $250 just as an example.
And it’s not just a few extra dollars it’s $600 extra a week for 4 months.
We just hit record breaking numbers for unemployment filing. I don’t even get how they are going to even be able to pay all this money!
But It’s ok everyone can think I am against poor people.

Update:
I claimed our weekly benefits this morning NYS is still showing just $504/wk for each of us. The payout hasnt shown yet and our deposit should come through tomorrow. I will update again then.
