Transition Order - Crib vs. Pacifier
My DS2 (18 month old) will probably soon be transitioning out of his crib to a bed. I'm trying to delay this as long as possible, but due to some space considerations, the crib probably only has a few more months left. He still uses the pacifier at bedtime, and the few times I've tried to take it away didn't go well.
With my first, we transitioned to the toddler bed first, and then took the pacifier away a while after. The pacifier transition was much harder, because he didn't know how to calm down and he was in a bed already so he could get out.
I'm wondering if losing the pacifier first, while DS2 is still contained in a crib would be easier.
Any thoughts or experience?

Transition Order - Crib vs. Pacifier
We did both at the same time but DD was older (almost 2.5). She was excited about her big girl bed and for about a week before we converted the bed we reminded her that she was getting a big girl bed and she couldn’t take the pacifier with her in her big girl bed.
She liked the bed and never asked about the pacifier again.

Transition Order - Crib vs. Pacifier
For me - we waited until almost 3 to drop the pacifier. They still needed it for comfort and my their 3rd bday I was able to say "ok big girl now, no binkie" and they both understood way better than when we tried at 18 months. We also gave them a toy they really wanted at the same time (like a binkie fairy). that transition was so much smoother lol. They also got big girl beds around 3 too.

DS1 was almost 3 when we took it away. It was only bad at bedtime, and I felt like he was less attached to it when was still in the crib, so I regretted not taking it away sooner.
However, DS 2 seems much more attached to it at night, so I've never seen a good opportunity to take it away. A few times we couldn't find one, and after a half an hour of crying and trying to soothe him, I ran out to get one because he wasn't letting up.
Sounds like maybe I should just let him keep it until he's a little older and can understand giving it up.

Why do you need to transition out of a crib? I love cribs! Toddler bed is no bigger than a full sized crib. My TALL almost 7 year old can still fit on a crib mattress, we moved her to a toddler bed at 5! She will get a twin bed when we separate the kids (and they really don’t want that now).
Go with the paci! Mine never took to it... but I had to break them off finger sucking at around 18 months.

Re: Transition Order - Crib vs. Pacifier
I personally think 18 months is young for both transitions.
Specifically for the pacifier, I'd wait. If you tried and it was hard, then he's not ready. FWIW, at 2yo, DD handed her pacifier over in exchange for getting her nails painted. The first day was a little rough but the second was easier and by the third day she was totally fine. Fast forward 3 months and she noticed her friends in daycare sucking their thumbs and she took to that. I really regretted taking the paci away so young. It's much easier to eventually take a paci away than a thumb.
She just turned 3.5 and now gave up her thumb in exchange for a doll. This time it was super easy. I think she was ready, though.

ITA. As long as they aren't climbing out, keep 'em in the crib. We took away DD's paci around that age. She started chewing them and the tips would fall off so I was very concerned about her choking. There were a few rough times, and she even still sees her paci in a picture and cries for it (at 2.5) but she gets over it quickly. She still got a bottle at night at that age- she didn't give that up until after she turned two and we had to pry it away from her, so she still had comfort at night, though it wasn't exactly the same.
She's still in her crib now and I'm dreading switching her to the big girl bed which we have to do imminently since the next is due to arrive in March.
ETA: She never chewed the bottle for some reason. Honestly towards the end of it's run, she just held it and didn't even drink from it.

I was so worried, too, but DD was fine. She still won’t get out unless we tell her it’s ok and it’s been over 6 months (I totally just jinxed myself). So don’t worry too much it will likely be easier than you think!

Transition Order - Crib vs. Pacifier
My kids are 22 months I just did the pacifiers 2 weeks ago, they didn’t really care, I just cut the tip off, they didn’t like it and that was it... cribs... they are still in the crib, and it’s going to stay that way, I so can’t trust them in a bed

Re: Transition Order - Crib vs. Pacifier
Both of my boys gave up the pacifier on their own between 2.5 and 3. They were attached to it, but seemed to grow up overnight with potty training and no longer needing the pacifier. They were in a full size bed before that.

Transition Order - Crib vs. Pacifier
18mos seems so young. Why do you have to do either? DD transitioned frommcrib to big girl bed (toddler bed) at 2.5 and it was bc I told her when she potty trained she could have a real big girl bed! But then the bed I wanted was out of stock and it took longer. Her paci she was 3yrs almost 4mos. It was Christmas night and I told her santa took all the pacis for the babies that didn’t have any and left her toys. She accepted this and it wasn’t an issue at all.
