It’s that special member of your family that you want to do something extra special for, but don’t know quite what. How about a lavish celebration, for whatever the occasion, (birthday, holiday, or just because) to celebrate their special presence in your life and home, replete with trendy music, specialized appetizers and cocktails of chicken soup and beat juice.

It’s just the type of party your pet deserves, and the latest in marketing ploys by companies targeting pampered pets and at the same time raising money for charity.

Their premise is that they are creating a party for the WHOLE family. And, just as parents wouldn’t leave their kids behind, why should pet owners have to leave their “kids” behind. After all, it’s just a matter of making some extra “adjustments” and “accommodations”.

These social soirees are hosted by companies that market extravagant pet products such as all-natural, wheat-free dog treat $11 a pound, synthetic –grass covered indoor porta-potties for $280, and leather jackets for $540 to name a few.

And, canine cocktail parties allow entrepreneurs to market their wares while allowing consumers to mix and mingle with other dog owners/lovers, and the pets a change to socialize as well.

And in some regions there are even events such as “yappie hours” allowing pet owners to bring their pooch to the local watering hole, in hopes of hooking up with another pet-loving prospect.

And some department stores even allow pet owners to bring their pooches shopping with them.
