It may not be the best commercial, but it’s certainly one that grabs your attention, especially since most of us can relate. It’s the one where the couple is trying to make it through a home improvement store without looking at what’s available, because they can’t afford to upgrade.

And, while what’s old is often new again, praise the retro revival, it’s often nice to spruce up what we have even modestly.

Besides your living area and kitchen, one of the rooms that get the most “abuse” and most views is the washroom. And, often times you may be faced with guests you just can’t resist getting into your drawers to see what you store there.

So, cleaning up the room you clean up in can transform a common commode into a room with classic elegance, and this, simply by changing your bathroom vanity.

Consider adding a distinctive mirror for effect, you can even pick one up at a second hand store, antique outlet or garage sale; perhaps even from a picturesque business that’s closing down or remodeling. Of course there’s always home décor stores. And, if you choose the latter route, be sure to shop in stores or online in venues that offer ample variety, especially in style and size. And, when looking for vanity cabinets, opt for classic pieces and colours that will less likely go out of style and that you can easily install on your own.

Another important point to remember is that while going for elegance, you also want durability, especially since this is a highly trafficed area.

And, this new addition allows you to upgrade without spending a fortune. In fact, it often serves as an instant makeover or facelift. Update towels, shower curtain, and vanity accessories for an additionally “minimal” cost and you’ve just achieved a modest makeover that will have people taking notice. Remember, a loo can be uncharacteristically cold when left bare and stark or overly crammed and cluttered. But, adding an elegant vanity to your bathroom can add character and make it the focal point of an otherwise “uninteresting” area. Plus, you can play the rest of the décor off this one item, giving this it a unique new feel and appeal.
