Seasonal Activities: Fabulous Fall Outings

While I’m almost “ashamed” to admit it (primarily because I was appalled at the fact that stores were stocking “traditional” Thanksgiving items at the end of August/beginning of September), I spent this past weekend putting out my pumpkins and hanging up my straw people, as well as making fall the prevalent theme in our home. You see we don’t do the scream theme for Halloween at our home, so seasonally speaking, we had to, despite our reluctance”, officially say goodbye to summer and embrace the fabulousness of the fall season.

Fall is traditionally a wonderful time of year, where cooler morning temps give way to warmer afternoon weather, then cool back down in the early to mid evening hours. And, for many, even those of us who are not partial to the declining barometer, or who experience seasonal allergies, it’s the ideal season to step outdoors for some last-minute pre-winter fun.

And, the GREAT news is you don’t have to go far or spend much. In fact, staying local can also help boost the neighbouring economy.

Here are some fun and fantastic weekend activities for just the two of you or for the entire family (including grandparents).

· Have a barrel of fun: Pick yourself up and go pick some apples at a local or nearby orchard. These crisp and crunchy seasonal fruits are at their peak this season and prime for the picking. Bring your bounty home and make your own fresh-squeezed juice or bake a homemade apple pie or heartwarming apple cobbler.

· Do some “patchwork: Pumpkin picking is another GREAT activity. Bring yours and carve out or decorate in celebration of this sensational season.

· Ride Sally ride: Take out the bikes or rent some and take a ride around local parks or bike routes and explore some areas you may not have seen before. A ride along the boardwalk this time of year is also very refreshing…just don’t forget your windbreaker or hoodie.

· Make something “old”, new again: Explore some vintage stores and antique shops…you may just be surprised at all the wonderful nostalgic items, including old sports memorabilia, that you can find.
