I'm sorry, but isn't this the woman who doesn't go out of her way for her own son and now she is writting and sending gifts to inmates??? Strange, and yes, scary.

WOW I would be afraid to have an inmate come visit me after getting out of prison, especially if they were in thre for murder. I am surprised that your MIL is interested in having this man come to her house.

some people have an obession with this kinda thing...Some sort of an attaction...

I wish I can remember where I saw this show. They had a show where women/men exchange letters with inmates and they even have a website for prisoners only in which they post about themselves. There are many women that go in this website (some of the inmates post pictures of themselves) and these women send them letters, gifts etc...
Some of these women have even gotten married with these men that are in jail and they go and visit them....
I think I'd feel a little uncomfortable in your case....

is your MIL married? i am assuming not and that she is trying to fill a void by corresponding w/ these men. although it started as an innocent pen-pal relationship it has evloved into something entirely different.
does your MIL have a P.O box or are these men sending letters to her home address? not really sure how the whole system works and maybe the inmates are not provided w/ the senders address. either way i would have a talk w/ her and your DH and express to them that you are concerned for her safety and the safety of your child.

I saw a show where in immatespray on these poor lonley women and they do some pretty horrible things to them if/when they get out
I would be more then a little scared- you don't know what there intentions are

That is extremely disturbing! Can't she volunteer at a nursing home or something to fill a void! I get people make horrific mistakes in their lives, but murder/rape isn't something I could see ever being ok.

um, ok. this is WAY too weird and beyond abnormal. is the husband aware that she is writing all these men? are the men aware that she is married?
IMO, she needs to sever her ties before something horrible happens.
eta: if she feels she absolutely needs to meet this man (which i think is a HUGE mistake), she should have someone accompany her and arrange to meet at a public place FAR away from her house.
