Jeffrey Wands appears frequently on television, is a popular guest on radio programs across the country, and hosts his own weekly radio call-in program, “Psychic Sundays,” on WALK 97.5 FM. He is the author of several books – his 6th and most recent, On Death and Grieving (A Psychic Medium’s Perspective). Please join us at VFW Post 516, in Farmingdale, for an intimate gathering of up close and personal, gallery-style readings, to be followed by a book signing with Jeffrey. The evening includes light refreshments and fantastic raffles, with proceeds benefiting the cats and dogs in LAP’s care.

A Committee Of Chamber Members, County Representatives And Tourism Professionals Are Bringing Fun, Competition And Recreation To Port Jefferson's Village Beautiful Harbor. This Event Will Include Local And Regional Teams Coming Together To Race Against Each Other In A Series Of Heats. Novice Teams Are Provided With Instruction And All Of The Necessary Equipment To Race. The Event Will Begin At 9 Am And Conclude At Approximately 9 Pm. The goal of this event is to assist in raising the funds required to maintain our newly opened no-kill adoption center for our animals. We rescue many canine and feline friends; however, we must constantly try to acquire foster homes in order for the dogs to have a warm, loving place to rehabilitate following a shelter stay. This fundraising event has helped us achieve our dream.

We will have a blessing of the animals, raffle items, food, contests, vendors and more!! This is a kid, family and pet-friendly event.

 
 
Usdan 10/5 junior Chess Challenge

Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts (www.usdan.com), the nationally acclaimed summer arts day camp once again named a “Best Camp for 2014” by TimeOutNY/Kids, will present its eighth annual Usdan Chess Challenge on Sunday October 5 at its specially designed Hexter Chess Center on Long Island. Open to grades K-12, the tournament is US Chess Federation-rated, and will be directed by Usdan Chess Instructors Brian Karen and Joel Salman.

On-site registration is from 11:15 to 11:45 AM the day of the tournament, and the first round is at 12 Noon. There are four sections: High School (Grades 7 to 12), Elementary (Grades 4 to 6), Primary Grades K to 3); and Championship, rated 1200+. There will be trophies awarded to the top five in each section. Sections may be altered depending on enrollment. Half-point byes are available on request. The last round bye must be requested before round 3 and is irrevocable. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult, and there is no smoking. Fees are $30 through 10/1, then $40.00.

A salute to the fighting soldier, ranging from the 2nd through 20th centuries, featuring:

- An Historical Encampment dedicated to the Fighting Soldier

- Demonstrations of the Life and Times of the Common Soldier

- Military History Displays and Camps from the Roman Empire to our more recent conflicts in the last century

- Some of the Periods represented will be the Roman Empire,
the Middle Ages, the age of exploration, the Colonial era, the
Revolutionary War, the Civil War, WWI, WWII, and more

- We will also be collecting donations for the Wounded Warrior Project

Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, the renowned summer arts day camp, will hold its first Open House for its 2014, 47th season on Sunday October 27 from 11 AM to 2 PM. It will be at the Center's magnificent 200-acre woodland campus. Families can obtain information on the more than 40 programs available on Usdan's 4 and 7-weeks programs (plus a special 3-week session). Students ages 6 to 18 are transported by air-conditioned buses, and no audition is needed for most courses.
