it is the busiest travel day of the year, but i think that applies more to airports.

It is bad commuting on Thanksgiving day My Mom and Dad use to do that when we were younger going into New Jersey and it took us 4 hours to get in there maybe 5 hours depending. I would leave Real early to get to where you are going too.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Anything going through the city is going to suck. All the parade traffic plus all the other travellers.

I remember sitting on the GWB for over an hour one year trying to get to LI from NJ. Chat Icon

we are driving to NY for Thanksgiving....we are driving up on Wednesday and coming home on Sunday. I hope the Sunday traffic will not be TOO bad being that I have to work on Monday and it is already a 12 hour car ride from NY to Charlotte

Re: Asking this a few weeks early....

Don't know where upstate you are going but my SIL lives near Carmel and from LI it is a 3 - 3 and 1/2 hour drive if you don't hit alot of traffic. My uncle used to live in Nassau (right outside of Albany) and it would take anywhere from 4 - 5 hours on a good day. On Thanksgiving Day, it will be a nightmare.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Same here... The year it took me 6.5 hours to go from Coram to Marlboro, NJ was the year I decided I was hosting Thanksgiving going forward.

The bridge traffic can be really bad. Especially if you are passing any colleges.

Re: Asking this a few weeks early....

We go up to Binghamton every year on Thanksgiving moring and the traffic is pretty light. I'm not sure how coming home that night would be.

Traveling upstate the day before Thanksgiving is a nightmare.
