Thank You Card Question

Hello…Please help settle a debate.

If you receive a sympathy card (not a Mass card) for a death in your family, do you send a thank you card?

I say no, hubs says yes. I don’t mind sending one, I just think it’s unnecessary. TIA :)

Re: Thank You Card Question

No, I don’t think people typically do that unless it is accompanied by a donation, or a funeral home visit, etc.

No way. A thank you card for a card? Maybe they should then send you a thank you card for your thank you card and you can continue thanking each other.

This

I feel like Ty cards are wasteful in general. Normally when someone gives you a gift, you thank them at the time. Other than a wedding or big event - not necessary.

You can acknowledge it next time you speak to them

Thank You Card Question

I don't think a thank you card is necessary for receiving a sympathy card in the mail. But if the person came to the wake/funeral then I would still send them a thank you for coming. And if anything, you could shoot them a text just thank them for thinking of you. But I don't think they expect a thank you card.

No- not for a sympathy card, unless they wrote a nice long heartfelt statement about the deceased.

No, I can't think of any situation where I would send a thank-you card for a card. As others have said, if they made, say, a donation in the name of the deceased, or something of that nature, I would.

Re: Thank You Card Question

I sent a card to a colleague who lost her husband. I did write a lengthy letter to her and she wrote back to me. I was at her home today and she brought up my card to me to say how much it meant and this was six months ago.

Thank You Card Question

Absolutely not. Does he send thank you notes for birthday cards?

Any anyone expecting a thank you card from a grieving family can stuff it.

I agree with this. I don’t do thank you cards for really anything. I did them for my wedding and maybe I did them for my kids baptism I can’t remember but that’s it!! I guess if we had a big party for some special occasion I may do it. But I hate thank you cards I throw them out as soon as I get them.

Thank You Card Question

Honestly, I hate getting thank you cards for attending a funeral. I stopped signing the book just so I don't get them.

But as everyone said, no you don't need to send one
