After May 19th NY will be very close to back to normal. Only difference will be social distancing and indoor mask mandates.
Also, I don't care if you don't want to get the vaccine, and I actually agree that it shouldn't be mandated for most things right now, as it's so new. But please do not claim that the numbers plummeting have nothing to do with the vaccines. That is exactly what this is...the vaccine working. You can not want it for yourself but still admit it works. The majority of new hospitalizations are those who are unvaccinated, as a matter of fact, when Michigan was facing their surge in March, they said the bulk of new hospitalizations were unvaccinated people under 50.
That doesn't mean you should get it, but let's not really still think it doesn't work.
I truly hope it works, I do. I just don’t trust Coumo with anything anymore and especially numbers.
It's clearly working since numbers are way down. And Cuomo doesn't create the numbers. Health Departments do and report the numbers. You can look at each County health dept site for their statistics if you think he is lying about the infection rate being lower. I think if you ask anyone who works in a hospital right now, they will tell you their number of patients are down. It's not coincidence. Even if you are not on board with the vaccine.

The numbers went down even lower in the summer of 2020 and then back up in Nov 2020.

Also, Florida is currently ranked 9th for cases per 100,00 people. NY is 17th. (according to NYT data).
I think in some states people do not get tested if they have just cold like symptoms. Heck, I know someone here who was bed ridden for over 3 weeks, but refused to get tested because she didn't need the government knowing her business.
Or numbers are all skewed. SC Health shut down their comments to some posts because they were getting asked questions about their numbers. Maybe that doesn’t worry some but it does to me when we are still more closed than other states and might not have to be.
What is still closed in Suffolk County? I'm out all the time. Everything is open.
Capacity and distancing is still a problem. Restaurants turn people away (happened to me on a weekend out east). Yes they are higher capacity but they can’t get that many people bc they need the distancing.
How some of these indoor places are going to survive with the distancing requirements is beyond me.
Schools aren’t having field days. Moving up ceremonies are only 2 adults. No siblings, grandparents, step parents. Sports 2 spectators. Not everything is “open” fully.

I spoek with a restuarant owner of a place I"m a regular at and he said even with 75% capacity he is having issues because the tables still have to be 6 feet apart. So they can go to 100% tomorrow and it won't mean a thing unless they drop the distancing requirement. Places don't magically have all this space to spread tables out.
While none of this affects me, and I don't go to bars until 4 am and my life is pretty much the same except I'm not allowed to set foot in an office of course, this DOES affect small business owners in a very big way.

Exactly. It might be open to what some people want to do but not all.

I think some of this can be attributed to the availability of tests now compared to a year ago. Many people suffered from what they believed was covid but didn’t need to be hospitalized and weren’t tested.

Nothing is opened 100% yet and I am pretty sure you still have to order food at a bar and the curfews have not been lifted for many places until later this month.
What do you mean 100%? As in capacity? That's not even a huge deal. Have you been somewhere and been turned away because they are full? I'm out to eat, etc. all the time and that has yet to happen to us. Actually it's nicer because stuff like the movies has no one there anyway
In addition, there is a date set to eliminate the curfews, and food does not have to be ordered to drink now.
Yes all will be starting but still not open like other states.
Proms can not have outside guests, they have to have multiple days so not everyone can go together. The dancing part just started. They have to be tested before going.
These things are not happening in other states.
Yeah well school is still socially distanced and masked and not all districts are even fully open. So I get the Prom thing. I thought you were saying that businesses and entertainment were not open in Suffolk County. School is a whole other ballgame.
In addition, many other states are not as densely populated as NY. California is like us. They still have restrictions on many things. It is what it is. By Summer it will all be back to normal. But, is it really impacting your life that much right now to not be able to stay out at a bar until 4am this week? (rhetorical)

I haven't read this entire thread, so perhaps what I'm about to say has already been said.
I think it's also possible that as time has gone on, the number of people who are getting tested when they aren't sick has dwindled. In other words, a year ago or so, people were getting tested before, say, seeing their family, or perhaps just to be sure they didn't have it. So a lot of people were not actually sick were getting tested.
Now, it is possible that more people are getting tested only when they are actually already showing symptoms, so the percent of people testing positive out of the pool of people getting tested is higher.
This is not a science, and I'm not presenting it as fact. I'm not an expert in the area either. It's just a thought I have.

Thats what it sounds like to me. I am sorry but it is disgusting how they are pushing people to get this vaccine. Something that many are not comfortable with but it seems every time you turn around (and I am SURE it won’t be just for a ball game) you need to be vaccinated or if you are not you are meant to feel shunned.
How people are comfortable having their children be an experiment is beyond me too. God forbid it does affect their fertility years down the road, they will regret their hasty, pressured decision.
