How do you handle...

So we are a year in our new home/neighborhood.

DS made friends with the neighbors and so so did we... so we thought... lots of drama with the adults and it seems to be spreading to the kids.

DS goes over to neighbors house to play ... never heard there was an issue - this was a months ago. FAst forward to today

We are outside playing and the older brother of the kid who had my son over says my kid is a bad person. I inquire as to why he said that all he says is well when my son came over the last time - there was arguing and my kid was playing rough...
I knew nothing of this... do I talk to his parents? My son says he can’t remember that far back- not helpful...

I’d ignore it and focus on forging friendships with others in the community. Lots of drama with adults you say? I’d be backing off ASAP.

Do you talk to the parents at all? I would definitely ask.

So we were friendly but then the husband got upset that his wife was talking to my husband ???????... so we are just on pleasantry now. Chat Icon

DH says let it go... if they have a problem or an issue occurred in their home they should be letting us know. Not their older son.

Ok so now that you said that maybe the dad told his kid that he couldn't play with your son because your kid was bad, when in reality he just jealous?. Weird that he was jealous his wife was talking to your husband and now the other kid is saying saying your son was bad. I would just leave it at this point but I would speak up if you hear similar things from others. The guy sounds like he has issues.

I agree, specially being a month ago and with the drama aspect of it.

Thanks ladies... it’s really bothersome. I’m not that mom that says my kid is perfect... but if I don’t know there is an issue how can I address...
I expect things to happen and I expect the kids to learn and grow from things. I find myself regretting moving into our neighborhood... I thought this would be great for DS as he’s an only kid... but Jesus there is some drama all the time. DH and I are the only parents ever outside with the kids... it’s annoying... I have seen all the kids together and let me tell you... not one including mine is an angel...

Just frustrated ... thanks for listening

I understand. I feel that same way. I know my kid is not an angel but when he was younger I got comments here and there and from parents thinking their kids are better and do nothing wrong. Since DS is older now - 15 y/o - I feel is better to stay out of the unneeded drama. That's something I'd do if I could go back in time.

Agree with this. Too many good people out there to waste time and energy on toxicity. If the adults couldn't be bothered to approach you respectfully, and you know your child didn't do anything that requires an apology, why lower yourself and/or look for trouble?

I am sorry your new neighborhood is making you feel this way.
