Garage door "façade"?
I am not really sure what to call this lol.
The previous owners of the house I bought 2 years ago extended the kitchen into the garage, so the house does not have a garage. But on the outside of the house, there is still a garage door there - it doesn't open, it just looks like there is a garage. The garage door that is there is wood (stained, not painted) is getting old and weathered looking and I need to do "something" with it - but I have no idea what I can do. Replacing it with another garage door seems silly ( and not even sure if it's possible). I was thinking I could paint it - but not sure that would really solve the problem for very long.
I am thinking about getting new siding for the whole house (just looking into pricing at this point, so not even sure it's possible right now). And even if I do that, just siding over the garage door area would make the house look strange - there would be this big area of siding with no windows or anything.
So, just wondering if anyone has ideas of what to do with the garage door if I don't get the house sided, or, ideas of how to "break up" the siding if I do go with new siding.

So many houses are like that I think it was so the town didn’t know they converted. 
Would like the stone type siding look strange or just removing it door and just painting.
I feel it wouldn’t look bad but I guess I wouldn’t know unless I looked at it.

There is a CO for the converted space, so that wasn't the reason. It's a ranch style house and the garage door area takes up a big part of the front of the house. I could do stone type siding, say along the bottom, but I feel like it would still be this big part of the front with no door/window or anything like that to break it all up

We had that in our first house. We added a big window there. I don’t know if that’s possible in your space, but it looked so much nicer.

Was it a real window, that you could also see from the inside of the house. In my house, the laundry room (the actual washer & dryer) back up to the "inside" of the garage door, so there is no way to put a real window in that spot.

You probably could put windows there. Just make them wider and shorter in height. Then below on the exterior you could put stone or whatever finish you select. If you have cabinets or storage over your laundry machines, you may have to sacrifice that space for the windows

Is there a vent for the dryer there? Otherwise, your dryer is just venting into a space between the laundry room and the garage door. If that's the case, you need to properly vent it when you convert.
I would probably just put up siding there. If you need a vent, I would see about moving the laundry to a side wall. People don't usually want a vent out the front of their house.

Yes, there is a vent that goes out to the front of the house - strange, I know, but it's not overly noticeable. And there is no other wall that the laundry could be moved to. It's either leave it where it is or move it back to the basement, which I'd rather not do

My friends' house was like that--with a converted garage & it had been sided. It didn't look odd, because they were on a corner, so the garage door part was on the side of the house & the front facing part had a window.
The only thing that was weird was that the driveway still led up to it, so you could tell there used to be a garage there.
There are decor pieces you can hang on siding--usually it is done near a door, but maybe there is something you can that would be larger?

I know it seems unnecessary, but maybe for the sake of the "look" just replace the garage door? The suggestion of a window and new siding is definitely better, but given the circumstances, a new door may be your best bet.

I agree. If you can’t add a window, I would just replace the garage door for the exterior look.
One of my neighbors did full siding over their garage door and it doesn’t look great.

We are going through this exact thing right now. We will be converting our garage to a dining room and I wanted to keep barn doors in the front for aesthetic reasons. However, the town will not issue us a permit with this set up because they say it is against fire code and we either have to put a garage door there with 3 feet of space behind it or no door at all.
So, we are choosing to put a semi-circle window at the very top and then side the rest of the garage area because I don't want to lose 3-4 feet of my dining room and I don't want a large window there to look out onto my driveway so I can see cars sitting there. Not the best view.
The point of my long-winded post is to say just replace the garage door bc you may be opening a can of worms if you want to do something totally different.
