Laundry detergent pods-yay or nay?

I'm trying to make laundry easier. My plan is to put the clothes in the wash with detergent before I go to work and have dh press start on the machine before I get home so the load would be done when I got home and i could just deal with the drying.

I thought that tossing a pod in would be easier. But I don't know if they are good for the machine.

Help me with this plan, lol

I swear by pods. We have an HE top loader, never noticed any problems due to pods.

I never heard of them being bad for the machine, but I hate them. I will only use them for towels, because they leave residue all over the dark clothes.

Re: Laundry detergent pods-yay or nay?

I would just have him add liquid detergent and then press start. Not too much more time consuming

I load my laundry in the machine daily (I don’t separate colors) and then sheets/ towels are separate. I load the machine and pour detergent in. I’ll let it sit for a day or 2 as it fills up, usually I do a load of a laundry every other day

Sometimes I just put the liquid detergent in the machine before I run errands, then I’ll just press start when I get back home, so it’s ready to go.

Do you put it on the bottom or on top of the clothes?

We always use pods. They are made for HE machines. I just throw one in the bottom of the drum.

Re: Laundry detergent pods-yay or nay?

I use the pods, I just throw them in the bottom and add the clothes on top. I read they are actually better for the machine because they are perfectly measured. Using too much detergent isn't good and causes buildup. With liquid, it's easy to use too much.

I just discovered that my washer has a delayed start feature, so I can set it to start in 1 hr or even 10 hrs. Now I can set it to start at 4 am, and then I can put the stuff right in the dryer when I get up. I hate to let clean laundry sit for more than an hour in the machine (even though it takes a little while for it to get that mildew smell, I just don't like to let it sit for any amount of time because I hate to risk it). So I don't have to rely on DH because he never remembered to turn it on for me.

I only use pods on vacation. I find them to be more expensive than liquid detergent

They are.
If you look at the unit pricing in like BJ's it's a HUGE difference

Re: Laundry detergent pods-yay or nay?

the only reason i don't like pods is because of cost.

i love the pp who said she had a delay start option on her machine. that might be the solution for you.

personally, i would never get a chance for a delay start. our washing machine is working almost non-stop, these days.

I use the delayed start feature on mine. I load it in the morning before work and have it start 1.5-2 hours before I get home Then I just move it to the dryer when I get home. I use liquid detergent.

I have a compartment where the detergent and fabric softener go in. In my old washer, I didn’t have that compartment. I wouldn’t let detergent sit on the clothes for a long time though. It’ll stain them. Just have your husband put it in before he turns it on.

Bottom of clothes. I use pods because I'm lazy but they definitely aren't as cost efficient as liquid.

I have used both pod and liquid. I mainly used liquid now due to price. I saw no remarkable difference that would sway me to use only pods...

My mom has been using liquid all her life
Recently we went to visit them in Florida and I wss in Target with her while she needed laundry detergent and a few other things...I told her to get the pods (I use them and love them)
She’s fully converted lol
I find them super easy to toss in
I use Tide clean breeze and original scent

Re: Laundry detergent pods-yay or nay?

I used the pods on regular machines and it didn’t not mess it up at all. I thought they were great but I switched back to liquid detergent because they were costly and I felt like liquid worked better. So to me I’d didn’t make sense to pay more and get less.

Tbh I never saw it as a saving time, in the process of washing clothes pouring a cup or two of detergent as opposed to dropping in two pods saves like 10 seconds maybe?? Now if the pods sorted,
Folded or maybe put my clothes away then that would be a game changer lol.

You can put the load in to wash and hubby throws clothes in dryer, folds etc.

Me and my mother disagree over this all the time. She thinks the pods are easier but throws 3 in at a time! I swear they don’t wash the clothes nearly as well and I don’t mind pouring the liquid since it cleans better. Definitely a preference.
