Cell phones in the bathroom

Do you find it necessary to speak on your cell phone while using a public bathroom?

The thought has never crossed my mind to be honest, but at work, that is ALL I see.

We share a bathroom with other offices on this floor and almost every time I go in, someone is yacking away on their cell phone while using the can.

Today was the kicker- this woman had someone ON SPEAKER while she used the bathroom.
ON SPEAKER.

So now not only was he hearing her pee, he was hearing me pee. And everyone else who might be in there.

What can be so freaking life altering important that you can't say- "hey you know what, I'm just going into the ladies room, let me call you back in 2 minutes?"

Why on earth do you have to speak while peeing or taking a dump?
The last thing I want is someone to hear me peeing or worse.

And eww, then when you have to wipe- do you put the phone down on the toilet paper holder? The floor? So gross and unsanitary, I wouldn't want my phone touching any surfaces in a public restroom!

I swear, people need to learn how to live for 5 freaking minutes without their phones.

Not only it is rude but I am more afraid of my home falling into the toilet or even the floor.

No. Absolutely not.

My old office bathrooms had automatic flush toilets. One day I went into the bathroom and some woman was taking a PHONE INTERVIEW in the stall. Not wanting to blow up her spot by the toilet flushing I sat there while she finished her interview. When she was finally done I got up and went to wash my hands. She was also by the sink at this point, gave me a dirty look and mumbled “nosy” as she walked out. I saw her around for months after so she obviously didn’t get the job.

OMG! She called you nosy after you sat there out of courtesy so the toilet wouldn't flush during her interview?
OMG I would have flipped out! You were doing her a favor.
I mean take the damn interview call in your CAR!!!

I sometimes flush the toilet extra when they aholes are talking on the phone. Our toilets are loud too and flush for a long time.

Cell phones in the bathroom

The women in my office do this constantly. It’s usually the women who have male managers so they pretend to be in the bathroom and chat on the phone.
I assume they figure they won’t get caught and the manager probably won’t ask for details of why they were in the restroom for 10 minutes .

I think this is gross and i dont do it.

Do you know if the people do it are actually using the toilet or are just in the stall? My guess is that people may have strict rules about not using their cell phone at their desk and if they get caught they get in trouble? Maybe this is their way to hide it.

Yes possibly. I don't stick around long enough to see if they are peeing or not but today the speaker phone chick came out and washed her hands so I assumed she had used the bathroom but who knows....

Do we work in the same building???

I see this A LOT where I am. Apparently the other offices are not allowed on their phones while they are working so they are on them in the bathroom. I purposely put my hand on the dryer longer than i need to.

LOL! I thank God every day that I work in a place that doesn't treat us like prisoners.
If I need to make a personal call, I'm making it.
If any of the people who work for me need to, have at it.
I can't imagine working somewhere where I have to hide in the shitter to call my husband.

This was in the city so she probably didn’t drive to work. But find an empty conference room or something.

I have never worked at a job where we couldn’t make personal calls. Even my first job out of college where I was worked to the bone 14 hours a day and my boss was a POS no one batted an eye at anyone making a personal call.

I can’t imagine not being able to make a phone call.

My last office we could completely make personal calls, everyone had a car and there were was even a "Zen" Room that was private yet there were still repeat offenders who would be yapping away on the phone while doing their business. I usually passed a comment loud enough for the person to hear but they still did it anyway.

I wouldn't even bring my phone into the bathroom -- it's not a place I want to be hanging out. Get in and get out.

Cell phones in the bathroom

We have the same set up in our office building. Most people that I come across are usually just in and out. My coworker though will take her phone and spend 10-15 minutes at a time in the bathroom, a few times a day. And we have the freedom to be on our phones and the internet at all times (which she is), so I don't get it.

Someone who used to work at my company used to FaceTime her daughter while in the bathroom. Now she was always outside the stall while she FaceTimed, but boy did I feel awkward going in there to use the bathroom knowing someone was a mere few feet away on a video call! Chat Icon

She was eventually fired for various reasons, one of which was spending too much time on personal calls.

OMG I cannot believe someone would actually think it's OK to do a phone interview in a bathroom! I probably would have flushed on purpose at that point Chat Icon

It's disgusting.
I saw this report once on how much bacteria is on people's phones and it was disturbing. And most was fecal bacteria from having it in the bathroom.
Chat Icon

I walked in just now and a woman was in the hall talking on her phone, (which she was at least courteous enough not to walk in while yapping ike most of them do) then she walked in and almost walked into me because she was texting.

Then someone walked out of the stall at the same time as me and had her phone on the sink- its all wet there too.
I know she wasn't on the phone because she was in the next stall- so why bring it?

Leave it on your desk. Nobody is going to steal it.

Cell phones in the bathroom

I think this is one of the most nastiest things anyone can do. I mean you are touching handles and doors and then your phone? How many of those people go back to their desks and disinfect their phones? Bet you a lot less than most people think, so now they are spreading all that nastiness all over their desks, their faces and the rest of the office.

People are gross!!!

Why would anyone bring a phone into a bathroom? There are other options if you need to make a call besides a public restroom.

I think I just hate public restrooms in general, I avoid them like the plague if I absolutely can. I get skeeved out about everything in them.

I know right? Everyone makes a big deal about washing their hands after using the bathroom, but then you take your clean hands and pick up your phone that was in the same place as those hands and touched by those hands before they were washed.
So it's like not washing your hands at all now.
Back to square one.
So nasty.
And like I said, some people aren't evening talking on it or using it- they just have to have it by their side at all times like a security blanket. The phone has to be touching their body 24/7 or they have a panic attack.
My phone is in my purse when I am work 90% of the time. I wouldn't dream of taking it with me to the bathroom.

I am not sure how anyone survived and navigated life before cell phones were invented.
