Getting rid of Furniture
We're going to purchase new bedroom furniture for DD. So we need to get rid of her current dresser and I don't know the best way to do so. Do you know if furniture companies will take the old furniture out and take it with them when they deliver the new furniture? I don't want to deal with finding someone to take it. And, it's too big to just leave on the curb for the garbage men. Any suggestions?

Re: Getting rid of Furniture
I always put mine at the curb and they will call special pick up but usually it doesn't make it unitl morning. People drive around at night on garbage night and take all kinds of crap

Getting rid of Furniture
Put it at the curb and call for special pickup. People may pass by and just take it. Or you can bring it all to the dump if you have a pickup truck.

This
I work in the furniture industry and none of my clients allow their delivery drivers to remove old furniture when delivering newly purchased ones (the only exception I have seen in my experience is mattresses)

Donate it. There are many organizations that will pick it up, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Society Of St. Vincent DePaul, Salvation Army, Vietnam Veterans Of America.

This isn't always easy. I tried to donate my dresser and called like 7 places and nobody wanted it. They have all these ridiculous rules, they wont' come pick it up, it has to be in better than new condition practically. I finally gave up, put it at the curb and it was gone in 3 hours- someone picked it up in a pick up truck.

Re: Getting rid of Furniture
You could donate it- my mom just called a truck from St. Vincent De Paul to get the furniture from my grandmother's house after she passed and they sold her house.
ETA the only pieces they wouldn't take were pieces that were in poor condition (scratched etc)

This is actually very hard to do. One of my friends called all of the above for a beautiful dining room set, and none would take it and another friend just called St. Vincent and Big Brother and emailed them pics and they were not interested in his bedroom set or living room. From what I gather, unless the pieces are almost brand new and modern, they don't want them.

I love how they are so choosy. I am not even talking about damaged stuff. My set was practically brand new and in perfect condition. Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth. Annoys the shitt out of me. So I dump it.

They are very choosy...I saw all the furniture, some in excellent shape, others very good. Apparently the don't like the late 90's early 00's lacquer furniture! I'm moving right now and getting rid of my couch and bedroom set and kitchen table & chairs...not even going to try to donate, garbage it goes! And it's a shame because it is all usable in decent shape.

Re: Getting rid of Furniture
I first try to sell it on Facebook. There are tons of groups you can post it to. Next I donate it. Yes, places are picky, but I'd rather someone get it who can use it. Last option is garbage. You have to call for a special pick up and they tell you what day to put it out.

I am surprised that these organizations are so picky. What a shame!
When I bought my condo in FL, I donated EVERYTHING (furniture, bedding, decor, appliances, kitchenware) to local donation centers. They were so thrilled to receive.

They were acting like they were Ethan Allen or something. It was ridiculous
