New baby's birth certificate :UPDATE:help
How long did it take to get your baby's birth certificate? I'm in Suffolk. I can't remember for the life of me how long it took for my other two but we are leaving for Florida in 4 weeks and I'm getting nervous. The baby is 4 weeks now.
Update: we got ds birth certificate a few days after I posted. So we brought it in to our health insurance office through dh work and they are now telling us nothing is covered because it was after 30 days of his birth! I'm fuming!! And freaking out at the thought of being responsible for his birth and dr appointments this last month. The envelope is post marked a day after the 30 days so the town didn't even put it in the mail until after 31 days so how are we supposed to be responsible for this?! This isn't the first time they are denying us coverage for something but this is the most expensive! I'm ready to call a lawyer! Should I be?? Is this even something a lawyer would take on??

Sometimes if they are travelling for free as a lap infant, and they look questionable in age, they will ask for it as proof that they are under 2 years old.
But if the baby is clearly a newborn, I can't see them questioning that they are under 2.
TSA does not require any form of ID for children under 18 .

My son's took about 3-4 weeks and if you are flying domestically you don't need a birth certificate.

You do need a birth certificate if they are travelling as a lap child. Most times I traveled with my kids under 2 they never asked but, they gave my friend a really hard time once for not having one for her DD.

I know at my job you had to let them know you had a baby within 30 days and then go back with the SS card and Birth Certificate when it came. They we're pretty specific that they needed to be notified within 30 days to be added to the insurance.

A baby is covered under the mother for the first 30 days of life. This is policy with every insurance.
You do, of course, need to let HR know you had a baby. This is obviously a given when the mother is the insurance carrier (since her HR knows what's going on because of maternity leave) but the father is responsible for informing HR when he is the policy holder.

Same, birth certificate came after 30 days but they knew when I was in the hospital I called. I sent a photo to them as soon as I got it. Were they notified prior?

I think for all child births you need to notify the insurance within 30 days of the baby being born.
You can provide the birth certificate and SSN once you get them , the 30 days don’t matter for that
Talk to your HR and see if they can help
Worst case you may need to enroll through NY state exchange for the child if needed

Yes, dh callled on March 9th. The guy in the office wasn't being very nice today. Then dh mentioned that he called and he says "oh well that changes things". But then wanted dh to prove it by his phone records when he called. His phone only went back to march 20th so I had to call sprint and have them tell me the date and time that he called them. But by the time sprint was finally able to get me this info the office had closed. So now we are waiting for 9am tomorrow and we are both super stressed! It's literally in the hands of this one person and it's driving us nuts going over the scenarios. This all sounds so messed up. This is our third dc and we never had a problem.

It can't possibly be that a post mark on an envelope is what determines your insurance coverage. That is absolutely ridiculous. Try and speak to someone at your insurance that has some common sense.

Yes, that’s insane but I think it would be unwise to call your employer’s HR dept out on Twitter.
My guess is it’s someone in HR who screwed up. When you add someone to your insurance, HR sets it up, not the insurance itself. You don’t call the insurance, you call HR.

Not her employer, the insurance company if they are giving her a hard time. I have ALWAYS called the insurance company directly, NOT my HR to add my kids.

Dh called this morning to tell them the day and time. We are waiting for a call back. But he said the woman he talked to said "okay at 1:12pm, so you didn't talk to me then". Like she was relieved it wasn't her fault. I told dh that if they still deny it when they call back he needs to tell them we aren't going away and this isn't over.

If you called within a month and they keep giving you problems
Ask to speak to supervisor
And if still issues call the state - I believe there is a state controller of insurance there is an agency and you can call and complain
It’s ridiculous
On top of the stress of pregnancy and child birth who wants to deal with this nonsense

Hmm, that’s very unusual. Usually HR needs to do it because they are the ones paying for the insurance. They need to make sure the child “qualifies” under their rules (it’s a formality, a child will almost always qualify).
