Working Moms Question
So I've been with my company for 10 years and within the next 2 or 3 years it will be relocating to another state, I will not be moving (by choice).
I have a very flexible position, I work from home 2x per week, can cover all snow delays, closures, sick days, random dr appts, etc. Very flexible! I am struggling if I should get ahead of the curve and start job searching now (and likely losing all that flexibility) OR ride this out until the end which will likely include a severance package + potential remote training for their new office.
I'm inclined to ride it out, but I flip-flop daily... Thoughts? Advice?

What do you do for a living? I'm always looking for people and we offer very similar flexibility for working moms!

I would ride it out. 2-3 years is a long time
How old are your kids? It sounds like they are in school. It is kinda ok to have less flexibility as they get older
I recently was approached about a move to a different job and I feel if it was a year from now, I could do it because my DS is going to middle school in the fall, but I couldn't do it now.

Working Moms Question
I’d ride it out. And I did ride it out because a similar thing happened to me. I used to work from home 3 days a week. It was amazing. Then there was talk of new administration and the person slated to be in charge was totally against telecommuting. I stuck around until it was confirmed he would be taking over and then I got out of dodge.

Working Moms Question
I would ultimately ride it out but start looking to see what's out there.
I'm in a similar boat - I was told 3 years ago by job was being eliminated and it took them almost 3 years to finally do it. I've looked around but, have been really picky with what I applied for. I went on a few interviews which was great practice and even got an offer (but, it was substantially less $$).

I would ride it out. Maybe they will offer you to work from home the whole time and be able to stay.

2-3 years is a very long time and you sound like you have it very good where you are. A lot can change in that time, so I'd stay put and re-evaluate when the time gets closer.

I’d ride it out. A lot could change with your company too in that time and maybe they would keep hold of you for satellite work. Or your own financial position could change and you could swing just something p/t.

Not sure what business you are in but are you ever looking for accounting/finance people?
Unfortunately no. I am in technology and I am always looking for project coordinators/junior project managers. And when I say technology, we are a tech company but you don't have to be tech savvy for the jobs on my team. Just super organized and good at coordination of projects.

Thanks everyone! Change with little kids is not easy especially when I'm used to doing what I want when I want!!
You guys seem to be thinking the same way I am, who knows what will transpire as the move progresses and for all I know I could be working FT remotely after the move!! Now I just have to put the worry to bed for awhile which is the hard part!

I work for a technology company. But my team runs the service department. The ladies who work for me are project coordinators.
The company as a whole is pretty flexible, but our team in particular runs on the ideology that if you act like an adult, we treat you like an adult. Once we trust you and know your work ethic, you can work from home when needed, work from home when it snows, work your schedule around your kids' things etc.
It's pretty much the dynamic of our team that makes it work so well.
I'm a mom myself so I know the struggle and I try to be as flexible as I can with my employees so they can balance their work/home life.
