Interesting discussion on Facebook. How do you identify politically?

A friend of mine posted something and it's become a very robust discussion on political identification.

A lot of people seem to label themselves "socially liberal but fiscally conservative". I have some....strong thoughts on that but wondering if people care to share, how you label yourself politically?

I am socialist. A democratic, social capitalist would be more precise. I believe in democracy and capitalism, with a healthy amount of socialism in there.

Socially liberal (pro choice , pro gayrights, women's rights, etc)

Would like stronger borders and immigration reform, stronger military, pro gun rights.
.
I believe in a single-payer healthcare system

Oh and I'm 100% pro Black Lives Matter and I literally cringe when I hear people say "all lives matter."

I don't really like to label myself I guess. I never voted for a Republican before and I absolutely love Bernie Sanders even though I don't agree with every single thing.

I will admit that there are certain things that Donald Trump says that I get where he's coming from… Or that I understand his appeal or maybe even agree a little bit. I say that because I just watch his interview with Hannity and he was saying how we spent so much money elsewhere in the world… In wars. For nothing. And I could see where it would be beneficial to take care of our own country first. We are always meddling but we have crumbling bridges here and people living in poverty, etc.

I still don't like Donald Trump and I don't like anyone he's appointed.

Sorry to bring him up in this thread… I guess I was just trying to show that I'm pretty liberal in some senses in others I guess I'm not.

Generally speaking, I tend to fall towards the more liberal Democrat side of things.

I don't. I never have. I never have been into anything politics until Trump came along. Chat Icon

My only stance is that this man should not be president simply because he is clearly not qualified!!!

I feel like I'm a little bit of a bunch of different things. If it came down to it I would define myself as a democratic capitalist becoming increasingly more liberal.

I dont identity with a party - never have. Always voted 3rd party until this past November.

Always questioned MSM and looked for alternative media sources but always lean far left especially socially. As i get older i do get the economic conservatism and willing to learn about it. However i am a bleeding heart and would rather see tax $ go to schools, roads, communities, infrastructure, libraries, healthcare, job development, renewable energy sources rather than Walls and military

I am, as you said, socially liberal, and fiscally conservative. I will say I'm registered republican, but because of trump, I was begging for sanders, even if I don't politically agree with him, I believe he does what he says, unlike most politicians and apparently reality tv stars Chat Icon.

I guess I'm a hair under "bleeding heart liberal with a healthy does of cynicism towards the right." I just can't get on board with conservative ideology in any way, really. I try very hard to look at both sides critically so maybe I could see something redeeming but that's generally not the case. I just have a very deep commitment and moral responsibility towards working together for a common good and everyone doing their part to enact change.

I've come to accept that I'm generally the most left-leaning person in any group situation. Sometimes I find people on par with me, very rarely do I find anyone to the left of me. My brother is the only example that readily comes to mind, and most of where we differ is on Israel.

I used to say Democrat with some Republican ideas I could support. These days I find myself identifying more and more as a Liberal. But I still have some ideas that do not meet the Liberal agenda. I really try and look at each issue individually and think about what is best for all.

Re: Interesting discussion on Facebook. How do you identify politically?

I would say I am pretty left ideally, but I usually vote center left. It's hard for me to put an exact term on it, social democrat. I probably would have voted for Sanders if Hillary hadn't been a candidate.

This is me too.

I hate to knock an entire party but I cannot identify with really any piece of the Republican ideology. If you read their platform, it's anti woman, anti gay, and anti poor. I understand there are two ways of looking at most issues, like fiscal ones, but there is so much evidence that trickle down economics doesn't work.

I agree with all of this. I'm open to voting for a republican candidate but have yet to find one moderate enough.

ETA: and as long as their platform remains antiquated and exclusive, none will get my support.

I am pretty far left. I am definitely a proud bleeding heart liberal. It's never crossed my mind to vote for a Republican candidate. There is nothing in their platform that I can support.

I'm one of those people you have "strong thoughts on".

I personally have "strong thoughts" on socialism.

But would never fault anyone for their political opinion, because it is just what it says, an opinion.

Proud bleeding heart, left-of-Lenin liberal. My husband told someone that the only thing left of me is the wall I'm standing next to.

Interesting discussion on Facebook. How do you identify politically?

I literally understand NONE of the titles.

I am me

I believe a lot of people say a lot of good things and have the right ideas on all sides of the arguments and I also think a lot of people say of a lot of really bad things and have bad ideas on all sides of the same arguments and they are the same people.

I don't think any one side is totally right or totally wrong.

I have my thoughts on every issues and they don't seem to follow any one 'title' or another so I have no clue. I even asked here for help and almost got my head torn off for it. Go figure. Seems to be such a sensitive issue.

Re: Interesting discussion on Facebook. How do you identify politically?

This is old. It told me I'm more aligned with Obama than Romney... so glad I checked Chat Icon but it also told me I'm a solid liberal. It didn't ask my stance on the few issues I lean right on, so maybe that's why. But I've always been, and probably will always be, to the left of something or someone.
