Limo driver in cutchoue crash..

Yes I read it, they say it wasn't an indictable crime but in a civil case he would be at fault?

How is an illegal u-turn not a crime? It turned into negligent homicide?

I feel for those poor girls families

Re: Limo driver in Cutchogue crash..

I feel bad for the families. The article said the DA knew there was no crime but left it up to the judge to tell the families. That is really messed up. Why waste the families (and courts) time? They are already devastated. The article I read said that it wasn't an illegal u-turn?

I heard this, so sad. I don't think there is a "no U-turn" sign at that intersection (maybe there is now), so I think that is why there was no "crime", just extremely poor judgement.

This is what I have heard as well, it seems like just a completely tragic accident.

.

No it was more like an uncotrolled interection.
You could make a right or left turn there. At the time there was no traffic light or anything. Since the accident a light has been installed.

Oh thank you. For some reason. I always thought he made like a K turn from the side of the road.

And wasn't it mentioned that a limo couldn't make a complete uninterrupted u-turn because of it's size? It basically had to stop and back up to complete it.

The problem is these are rural roads still out there - they weren't designed for the onslaught of tourists, limos, party buses etc that the wineries have brought in the past 10 years.

A lot of intersections are uncontrolled still.

It's sad that it took a tragedy like this to put a light there. Residents said they were complaining for years that someone was going to get killed there.

I live about 3 minutes from this intersection, and what stinks is that while they did finally put a light there, previously it was a flashing yellow light, they still didn't make it a turning light, which doesn't solve anything for future concerns. Limos can still turn on the green and cut off on coming traffic.

Yes he blew over the limit. And he fled the scene at first.
I am surprised we haven't heard more on him.
Unless he was charged with DWI but they only charged the limo driver for causing the crash because of the way he made that turn?
I don't know....the whole thing is horrible

The driver's BAC wasn't over the legal limit. It was said there was NO way he could stop, or anyone could stop in time to miss hitting the limo.

It was said by first responders that he didn't really "flee" the sign. He walked away because the scene was so grizzly and he came back shortly thereafter.

The news article I read said he was impaired but not over the legal limit. I also read that he didn't flee, he just walked away to the side of the road because it was a horrific scene. He told the police and they knew where he was the entire time. It said he isn't being charged because even if he wasn't impaired, there is no way he would have been able to avoid hitting the limo Chat Icon

When they did the breathalyzer he was under the legal limit and the accident recreation showed that he was not the cause of the accident. That's why he hasn't been in the news. The accident was all because the of limo driver.

The limo driver could not make a U turn. He had to stop back up and then turn so basically a K turn.

Re: Limo driver in Cutchogue crash..

Goes to show you how the media spins things.
I was looking back on articles about this the other day and all the headlines were - limo hit by drunk driver, drunk driver hits limo, etc.
And stories of how he ran into the woods and the cops apprehended him shortly afterwards.

All false or sensationalized I guess.

And the sad part, I am sure that guy got a lot of hate over it- they posted his name, his picture, etc- and all the while all the facts were wrong. Terrible

I know and it's not like they ever print a retraction. I think it's horrible because it probably ruined a good part of his life, just because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

As for the limo driver, I don't think that he was being reckless I just think he was careless and made a bad judgement call.

The whole thing is so unfortunate.

It really is just tragic. I don't think he was being reckless either. He probably saw a bunch of other limos do the exact same thing and figured it was fine. Almost all the limos leaving there used to make that same k turn. It was just a matter of time before something happened.
