So I ditched my night cream...

...for plain old coconut oil. And to be honest, my skin has never looked better and it's only been 2 days that I'm doing it!

I don't recommend this if you have super oily skin, but my skin has been really dry lately.
Probably a combination of being over 40, the dry air in our house from the AC in summer and heat in winter. (I always wake up with a dry throat and choking most nights). I also think the summer killed my skin- sun, pool, beach etc.

Anyway the past few weeks my skin has looked like utter shitt. My foundation has not been going on right, it was clinging to red, dry, flaky patches and looking horrible. My face has been flaring red all over too.

I tried different foundations, primers, concealers you name it. Always looked like shitt no matter what.

The other night on a whim I used coconut oil to remove my make up in place of my micellar water. Rubbed it in then removed it with a damp washcloth. It took the make up off perfectly and my skin felt so so smooth.

So I started googling and found some interesting articles on the benefits of coconut oil. One mentioned using it as a night cream.

So I did my usual nightly routine but instead of my night cream I used a thin layer of coconut oil. Slept with it on and just rinsed the next morning-it was pretty much all absorbed during the night.

I have to say, my foundation has never gone on more smoothly and covered better.
My skin feels like a baby's @ss. Even my eczema patches look better.

If you have dry skin at all, I highly recommend it. And it's cheap and all natural.

In my research I found a recipe for an exfoliant with almond flour and coconut oil.
But baking soda is easier- i always have that around!

So I haven't used face wash in like a year. I used to use oil on my face in the shower and honey afterwards and then got lazy and just use manuka honey and my skin also has never looked better!

I use Argan oil and love it! "they" say that using oil on your face, the right oils anyway, does not make oily skin oilier.

I get occasional break outs. Usually related to my period coming. However, I did some reading and they actually say that coconut oil can HELP with breakouts due to the antimicrobial properties. I'll find the article.
So far I haven't gotten any new breakouts.

ETA- this is what I read:

Coconut oil acts as an antibacterial shield
The antibacterial properties of coconut oil protect the skin from potential pathogens. More importantly, it can reduce the risk of bacterial infections worsening acne. It is mainly the lauric acid in the coconut oil that acts as the antibacterial agent. This medium chain fatty acid constitutes 85% of the coconut oil. The only other natural substance high in lauric acid happens to be breast milk.

The primary reason of acne may be excess secretion of sebum, either due to hormonal imbalance or problems with skin hydration. Comedo formation (blackheads and whiteheads) is the usual result, with the ones covered with a layer of skin remaining as whiteheads while the sebum-filled open pores becoming dark.

The sebum-filled whiteheads may enlarge to become acne vulgaris, with bacteria proliferating in the trapped sebum. Propionibacterium acnes which normally reside in the follicles multiply quickly, filling the acne with pus and making way for secondary infections by other bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and S. epidermidis. Using coconut oil regularly, for both moisturizing and deep cleansing, can keep the bacterial populations under control.

That's really interesting! I am so tempted to use it lol. But, too scared. I used it to remove eye makeup a few times and broke out.

Re: So I ditched my night cream...

I sometimes do it as a make up remover (I used to do baby oil, but it is too oily). I love it for my face and as a body lotion is great as well. Now I feel that other body lotions don't work as good as coconut oil does.

Hearing all these good review almost makes me want to use it, but I hate the smell of coconuts and it would make me vomit. Honestly, if I smell it on someone in passing, I gag a little.

You can buy it literally anywhere.
Supermarket ,Trader Joes, BJ's, Costco.

the brand doesn't matter. Just get organic, extra virgin and non refined. That's the best one for your skin

I put it on about half hour before bed, let it soak in fot a while and then blot any excess off with a tissue before I get in bed.
It absorbs pretty well for me though

My skin must be drier than I think because it never leaves a real greasy feeling. I could probably wear it during the day too, at least on days I don't wear foundation.
The best part about putting it on at night, is the smell and I don't need to put on a separate lip creamChat Icon

Yeah my skin sucks it up pretty fast too. I rarely have to blot much and it's NEVER on my pillow.
Love it.
