Funeral arrangements if person was OOS

A family member (who is elderly, and lived a good life) is expected to pass in the next day or so. The family is going to have the funeral and burial here in NY. Does anyone know how long the process usually takes as far as when they pass to when they are transported and funeral arrangements begin? I hope I'm not sounding callous, but I'm supposed to have a minor surgical procedure this week, and I'm trying to figure out if I should cancel it, knowing that I won't be 100% at the end of the week.

A friend's father recently passed while visiting relative OOS. He passed on a Saturday and the wake was the following Thursday, funeral on Fri. As far as I know, that was the soonest they could arrange everything

Once the paperwork (death certificate) in the state he passes away in is completed then he can be transported here. Until the death certificate is signed and completed a body cannot cross over county or state lines. Once the body is in NY the wake can be as early as the next day.

It might take a little longer than usual because the body will have to be transported from another state.
The funeral home in the state the person died in will have to coordinate with the funeral home in NY in obtaining the necessary permits to transport the body.

This recently happened to a friend whose mom died in Pennsylvania, transported thru NJ and was buried in NY.

When my mother passed away in florida, she died on a saturday night and was flown up on tuesday.
