Baby Eczema. Hydrocortisone cream?
I had went to the doctor today because my 4 month old DD has a bit of an eczema flare up and the doc said to use hydrocortisone cream. Has anyone used it before and what brand? Also, anyone have any luck with any products for eczema for their babies? Currently using Eucerin for babies but don't see a major difference.

You can use cortisone cream.
Eucerin makes an ezcema one that is good, the mustela one is even better. If it's really that bad you can go to a pediatric dermatologist and get prescription gels.
Also, limit the baths and moisturize immediately. Humidifier.

I've had good luck with plain cetaphil wash and Cerave cream for both my girls.
I personally try to avoid the hydrocortisone and Rx creams unless it's a particularly bad flare up that seems bothersome to them.

If you use coritsone you can only use it for 7 days. I took my kids to Dr. Kristal in New Hyde Park. He prescribed them Alcometasone and Mometasone. We bathe every day and use Aquaphor baby wash. We use CeraVe cream or Cetaphil Restoraderm.

My 2 year old has eczema behind his knees, sometimes so bad it bleeds. I use a thin layer of hydrocortisone a few times a week & it helps a lot. Not sure what brand.

My 5 moth old has the same problem! I use the Alcometasone from the Dr. at bed time and before getting dressed. It's gone by the next day!

I can't wait for our appt with that practice. Poor dd skin is so bad from the excema. Been waiting a month and a half !

My daughter had moderate to severe eczema, like skin bleeding bad. She's almost 2 now and has been much better. We bathe her every night (as recommended by her dermatologist and allergist) and we use Cetaphil for soap several times a week--the other nights no soap, just water. We use CeraVe cream (the one in the tub--not the lotion) immediately after the bath. We also apply it in the mornings and sometimes throughout the day if she feels dry.
ETA: When she had really bad flare ups, we did use Rx creams, even though I hated using them. We also see Dr. Kristal.

Used just the store brand. It was the only thing that helped and once we used it for about a week or two, he hasn't had an outbreak since.

Because of DD's eczema we use one or the other everyday (thin layer) right before putting lotion on her.
Her doctor said its no big deal to use it everyday...but I do have my concerns.

Did you tell them it was an emergency and that the child was suffering? They got my DS in the dame day when I called them. IDK if its because he was only 2 months old but they were great about it when I told them it was severe.

I was told the same about cortizone.

But thats the thing though...eczema doesn't clear up, right?
It comes and goes, but it mostly stays.

My kids eczema when under control and they are having good weeks is not visible. But any little thing can set it off. Temperature, stress, allergies, fabric or material, lotions, peoples perfume. Its awful because we could be great for days even weeks then all of a sudden BAM spots all over, itching, scratching. Its sad.

We use Cerave Baby shampoo/ body wash and lotion. It is the only soap and lotion that has not irritated my DS's skin. Even regular Cerave and other products made for kids with eczema irritated his skin. We also only use free and clear detergent on his clothes, sheets, towels, blankets etc. Those two thing have made a huge difference. We use no other products on him and his eczema has been under control for awhile. Good luck!

Ezcema comes from the inside. A cream isn't treating the root of the cause and will only help provide itch relief. Look into leaky gut syndrome. By modifying my daughter diet, adding in a high quality probiotic and attempting to heal her gut lining this winter was so much better than last year.
I realize OP has a baby but some babies are born with leaky gut syndrome. Kula mama and wellness mama both have amazing blogs hat address these issues

DS1 had HORRIBLE eczema - we limited baths, used cortisone, and tried so many other lotions, but the problem didn't go away. DS2 had moderate eczema, but then it got really bad around the same time we had to see an allergist. She told us to bathe DS2 for at least 20 minutes each night and then moisturize within 3 minutes of getting out of the bath. We follow this (we only soap 2/3x per week and the other days we only use water) and both of them have clear skin now. We use a prescription cortisone for patches. I always thought you should stay away from baths for eczema, but doing them frequently has really improved the boys' skin AND DS2 also gets food he is allergic to, but it does not affect him like it used to!

So...4-5 nights a week, they just sit in plain water, no soap, nothing and it helped their eczema?
We tried soaking DD in water with some apple cider vinegar but it didn't seem to help.
We'll try the daily water now.
How long before you noticed a difference?

Yup! They sit in a lukewarm bath for 20 minutes and then IMMEDIATELY get slathered in eucerin cream (not lotion). We used a prescription that cleared the little one up at first, but he's had no problems since! The meds cleared him up in 3 days. DS1 still had eczema at that point and didn't use any medication- he cleared up in about a week. We use California baby wash the 2/3x a week we wash them. No washcloths either- just hand washing. I put bubble bath in the bath the other day- BIG MISTAKE. I pulled out 2 itchy bright red alligators. That cleared up after 2 days of extra lotion and water only baths.
