Who would I call for this? I have a medical condition that is literally taking over my life. I call out of work sick at least twice or more a month. I don't want to stop working but it's hard to keep calling out and now as much as work believes my problem they are def getting fed up. I don't know what to do anymore :(

I think your first step is to go to the doctor to be evaluated on your condition - you need to have a paper trail of medical records to back up the disability claim. From there, the doctor will advise if this is something that can be treated in other ways or if the only way is to go on disability, and then you have to file all the paperwork and be approved for it. Re: Disability info

Is this for SSD? I don't have much knowledge except knowing that it is very difficult to get approved. I believe that many people end up getting a lawyer for an appeal.

There is some very general info on the Social Security website:

disability

did you file for FMLA through your job (if it is offered)? Hopefully someone on here can give you more info about it, but i believe it gives you some sort of job security while you take time off for a medical condition. I would think that may be your first step while you figure out disability

Does your job offer any type of STD or FMLA policy? If so I would look into it with your HR department.

Re: Disability info

The first question that needs to be answered is whether you have any employer based disability coverage (i.e. a short term disability plan and/or a long term plan). If so, find out the coverage details/limits. H.R. should be able to assist you.

In terms of social security disability, you need to have a condition that has stopped you from working for 12 months or is reasonably expected to stop you from working for 12 months. The standard is very high. However, if you are on a private disability policy, it most certainly subrogates to social security disability. That's good, because its in the carrier's interest to assist you in getting approved for benefits.

Honestly, start with your HR department and see what, if anything, you have in the way of coverage.

Also, when you see your medical providers, you want to make sure you speak about how difficult it has been for you to maintain employment. Making a record is key.

Good luck.

Go see your doctor and get a good disability lawyer, you normally get turned down twice and that's only because they want you to get discouraged and walk away don't do it, have a lawyer do the work for you. Make sure you have all your med. records for the lawyer. As long as you have all the points you need from all the years you worked you should have no problem getting SSD/SSI.
