Smelly Toddler Shoes

DD started day care recently. I know they can't take their shoes off all day b/c if there's a fire they can't get all the kids shoes on. In the beginning I put her in her sneakers but as it got hotter I started to put her in her closed toe sandals.

Her closed toe sandals from stride rite stink from being in them all day which makes her feel really smelly... I've washed her shoes a few times. I wash them and then after 2 days of wearing them, they stink again.

I put her in her sneakers today b/c it was milder....

Any suggestions? I would hate to throw the shoes out b/c they weren't cheap and I need them the rest of the summer...

Re: Smelly Toddler Shoes

How about trying some cornstarch powder on her feet before putting them on?

My 2yos have the closed toe sandals from Stride Rite and their feet STINK when they wear them. I wash them just about every other day and it doesn't matter. I will never buy them again! I'm going to just deal with the stench for the rest of the summer lol. Their feet are perfectly fine in all of their other shoes... it's just these that do it.

It's the shoes - we have the same problem. I just keep him in sneakers since his feet started to peel in the sandals and the stench.

Re: Smelly Toddler Shoes

get her a pair of crocs, my boys have lived in them every summer since they could walk -

Or, my sister wasn't a fan of the crocs. so she got my niece Toms that look like they have little holes in them, and kind of a rubberish "Croc" material ......

We do crocs as well. Her feet are dirty at the end of the day. Don't know why but they are easy to wash plus 2 year old dd refuses to wear all the other shoes we have bought her.

Re: Smelly Toddler Shoes

This exact thing happened to us last year with Stride Rite shoes. They were the worst smelling shoes on the planet after DD's sweaty feet wore them all day.

This year I only bought machine washable shoes for daycare.

I hate the whole no open-toe shoe rule in daycare!

Thanks everyone. I'm going to look into Crocs. I was holding off on them b/c of the lack of support but I just may need to do that.

I wonder why Stride Rite shoes are so stinky! For what they cost, they could be made of gold LOLOL

Same thing happened with my kids - the only summer shoes that don't make their feet smell are Crocs.

My DS wears sneakers and socks all summer to cut down on the smell.

DS's sandals smelled really bad last summer. This summer we put him in sneakers on milder days to limit his sandal days. So far they don't smell, but I expect they will eventually. I don't think there's much you can do. Feet sweat and then smell.

Socks... kinda uncool looking, but I put DS in socks and sandals every other day to avoid the stink from building up

Really? I know this may sound like a silly question but wet or dry? and for how long?

I'm totally intrigued....

Dry. It supposedly absorbs the odor

Also it says dryer sheets work too

Its not just stride rite. DD had Children's Place sandals, open and closed toe and they all stink to high heaven. I scrub her feet every night in the bath, washed the shoes and put powder. Nothing worked. I threw them all out and got her new sandals and Mary Jane style sneakers. I was surprised at how stinky they got! Neither me or my DH have stinky feet, just our poor DD! LOL

Good to know. It's interesting, DD feet never smelled this bag until she started day care and was wearing them all day.
