Breastfeeding help please
Up until recently I was exclusively pumping. My let down was too strong for my LO and I had an oversupply so BF wasn't working out for us. My little guy is 3 months now, and between my supply evening out and he being older, breastfeeding has been easier so I am almost EBF now (one bottle a day) and happy to not be pumping all day.
But I feel like my LO isn't getting enough. He is looking to eat every hour to hour and a half. I think he unlatches before he is full. I BF until he either falla asleep or unlatches, refuses the breast and starts cooing.
How do I get him to stay on longer? And when do I know / what signs should I be looking for to know that he is "done for real? "

If he's falling asleep wake him up, tickle his feet, use a cool wet washcloth, anything to wake him up/keep him up. Are you burping him? Maybe when he's starting to fall asleep unlatch him and burp him, then switch sides.

This is exactly what I was going to say.
Make sure he nurses from both sides, I had the same issue with DD and it worked for us.

What jess said. Wake him up. I tickle dds neck. I sit her up and burp her and switch sides. If she falls asleep and unlatches when I wake her she almost always will relatch and take more

I agree with the previous posters. I sometimes feed on one side and then do a diaper change when she falls asleep before doing the other side - this usually wakes her up.

Wanting to eat every hour is not indicative of low supply! As long as theres plenty of wet diapers, you are fine. My daughter didn't go 2 hours until maybe 11 months.

This. At 3 months old, if he's unlatching he is likely done. Time between feedings will eventually get longer but I'd just follow his lead. When my babies were newborns <8 weeks, I'd do the toe tickle because they are just so sleepy at that age, so it's hard for them to stay awake. My boys always wanted to nurse every 1.5-2 hours so I know how draining it can be!

In the beginning I use to feed DS only in his diaper with a light blanket over him so he never got super cozy and would nurse a while.

You can try breast compressions to get him back going once he stops so he'll take a little more. Diaper change and switching sides often works. Easy, play, sleep helped with both my girls to get them to not fall asleep and take a full feed rather than nursing to sleep and then snacking again when they wake up. My younger one does that sometimes and I feel like I'm feeding her constantly durng those phases.My older one never went more than 2 hours until she was over 4 months.

I think it's normal at that age. Your supply is fine. DS was nursing pretty consistently every 1.5-3 hours until at least 6 months, but probably closer to 9-10 months. Even now at 14 months, DS will sometimes nurse frequently.

In addition to what everyone ekse has suggested, one really helpful trick I learned for figuring out if baby gets a full feeding is this: When he unlatches, express a little more milk and look at it. If it's thick looking, opaque, solid white, it's hindmilk and you know he is finished. If it's thinner and more clearish, it's foremilk and he needs to work more to get to the hindmilk. HTH!
