Had my second DD at Winthrop at the end of May - I asked for one and they said no. The nurse said, "I'm sorry, we are a baby friendly hospital." This was at 3 in the morning. I seriously could have punched her in the nose. My husband went and got one for me - so I guess I'm not baby friendly. Chat Icon I had a great experience at Winthrop though - my own room and great doctors and nurses. This was the exception in terms of my experience.

Wtffff?? I would have asked her if she ever heard of the studies on how they help prevent SIDS...then I would have punched her.

And even if you are BF there are schools of thought that say pacifiers wont hinder BF.

I was BF and they looked at me like i had 10 heads at SB when I asked if they could take her until she needs to nurse again so I can sleep. I was a new mom and couldn't sleep through any sounds without thinking she couldn't breathe or something. I agree it has less to do with them supporting BF and more with saving $$$$$

They told me you had to ask for one bc people were upset when one was automatically given bc of nipple confusion

I asked and we got one

They may have them but don't give them unless asked.

Damn can these hospitals GET any cheaper?
Are they lowering what they charge the insurance companies and patients with all this cost cutting?

Righttttt

I really though it had to do with them promoting breastfeeding but you may be right. They didn't supply my bassinet in the room with many supplies.

But what if you aren't breastfeeding?
Then what?
How about them apples?
LOL

Trust me- all of this "baby friendly" shit has nothing to do with breast feeding.
It has to do with saving a buck.
Less formula
Less pacifiers
Less staff in the nurseries at night.

It's all Bullshitt

Agreed.. I don't even know what they mean by "Baby friendly". That is pretty ridiculous. But I know bottom line it is to save $.
