Best time to head to PA from LI
We are leaving for Lancaster on Sunday... I plan on leaving my house at 9am... I HATE the belt parkway and SIE. Should that be a good time? I haven't been that way on a weekend in a LONG time and I usually don't leave that early and am stuck in loads of traffic!

Best time to head to PA from LI
Honestly, we leave much earlier. If it's a 5 hour + drive, we leave before sunrise. DS is in pajamas and sleeps most of the ride. We make great time and avoid all of that congestion.

I also recommend taking a different route and not going on those two roads. If you avoid them, you should be fine.
When I head off LI on the weekend, I'm fine leaving around 9. Especially on a Sunday.

Best time to head to PA from LI
I definitely wouldn't take that way. I would probably cut through Manhattan on a Sunday morning or take the GWB. We took the SIE and Belt recently to Wildwood, and it was torture. Pure torture.

I drive to PA all the time on weekends. I am out of the house by 8am the latest on Saturday or Sunday and I take the Throngs Neck to the GW to I80

We go on a weekday but we leave around 9:30/10 am- that helps us miss most of the rush hour traffic.
We have done it 3 years in a row and NEVER sat in much traffic.
Other than maybe a small back up on the belt here and there, but there is ALWAYS a small back up on the belt- DH used to go to work at 11 pm and there was traffic on the belt.
But to be honest it was never anything insane.
That is a weekday though.
On a weekend you can probably get away with leaving earlier and be fine

Any time we have driven to PA (Philly, Sesame place areas though) we left at around 6-630am on a weekend. Driving through the SIE is the WORST so we try to leave as early as we can to beat any traffic. Coming back we are always stuck though.

On a late Sunday morning in the summer, I would go through Manhattan too.
I wouldn't really do that on any other day or time, but the beach and vacation traffic will be brutal.

Yes I was going to say, on a weekend it should be fine.
Hell, I leave on a weekday at like 930 -10 am and still make it to Lancaster by 1 pm
Too early to even get our room!
No need to leave in the middle of the night

I think it will still be ok leaving at that time. The only issue I always worry about is roadwork. Last summer they were doing roadwork on the NJ tpk coming and going and it was a disaster. Sometimes they do some roadwork right when u get into SI too. Like everyone else said no matter when you come home, the belt is always a disaster ugh. We just leave early because we like to make it for breakfast in Lancaster by 9-9:30. Some of the smorgasbords we like stop serving at 10 lol.

We left a few minutes after 9 and hit NJ at 10am.... No traffic at all!!!!!! Coming home tomorrow will be a whole other story!!! LOL
