BTDT C-Section mamas....

I'm having a scheduled C-section. DS1 was an emergency C-section so I really feel like this may be a different experience. After DS1 was born I was throwing up from the meds and very much out of it for approx the first 12 hours. Again, it was an emergency so I don't know if I had those reactions because everything was rushed, nerves, or if it was just how I react
For DS2, I'm scheduled for a c at 4pm. My SIL is taking DS1 (who is 3 years old) the day of the c. My original thought was to have her bring him to the hospital after the baby is born and then DH would bring DS1 home with him when he leaves that night. Now, we're sitting here talking more about it and I'm starting to think that maybe that will be too late for DS1 and I should just have my SIL bring DS1 to my MIL/FIL house and let him sleep over there. What do you guys think? Barring any complications, if I go in at 4pm, what time do you think I'll be in my room with the baby? Did anyone else get sick from the meds after?

Re: BTDT C-Section mamas....

i had planned c/s both times. first time i was very nervous and got drugs after they took out a baby i felt horrible. i didnt want that again this time so i stay very calm and focused. I did throw up a few times when I got back to my room. Once they gave me nausea meds i felt a lot better.
I was scheduled for the second cs spot and had to wait until others were done. since your getting there at 4 you may not even be in OR until 6 or later if there are emergency cs. I think if someone can bring him and then take him home is better.

BTDT C-Section mamas....

I was just in such better shape 24 hours later. I passed all of their little tests, got out of bed, washed up etc... it made everything easier. I also had some complications during the surgery that I was wiped out afterwards. I think with a scheduled C at 4, you'll be in the recovery room for a few hours, then they'll bring you up to your room.
Whatever you decide, Good luck!

Re: BTDT C-Section mamas..

I had my Csections scheduled but never made it to my csection dates lol. Based on the times of my deliveries my DC always came the following day. My last one I delivered at 2:30pm and was in recovery until 6:30pm(vomitting like crazy) then moved to the postpartum floor. The next afternoon my parents bought them.

This time my doctors aren't even scheduling it(history of preterm deliveries and bad scar tissue can't go into labor on my own fear of rupture; being checked weekly for dialation) . So soon as my cervix starts to dialate they are just doing my csection since by hospital law they can't schedule prior to 39 weeks. I plan on having my parents bring them the next day no matter the time I deliver.

Re: BTDT C-Section mamas....

I just had my scheduled c section for DS2 this past Thursday. My first c section 3.5 years ago with DS1 wasn't planned but after a failed induction it was what I ended up with. I was so nervous, I ended up being put to sleep during it because I actually never got numb enough and could feel everything that was being done and really just starting panicking on the table. So after that experience I was really hoping for a better experience this time around. DS1 was born at 4:30 pm and I don't think I was even conscious until around 6pm and then was in my room by 6:30pm. Family came in to see the baby, I proceeded to throw up once and that was it. I was asleep by 7:30 for the night and didn't wake up until 6 am the next day, baby was in nursery the whole time because there was no way I could take care of him alone that first night.

With this Csection, I was scheduled at 7:30 am, baby was born at 8:30 am. Overall it was a much better experience this time around. I was conscious through the whole thing, was talking and joking around with my doctor and the rest of the staff in the room, it was actually a really pleasant experience, I am so happy with the way it went. However, I started throwing up before I even got into my recovery room this time. I think twice while I was being stitched up still on the table, once in recovery and then again when I got to my room. I didn't get into my room until 11:30am. The nurse said I would have been in my room maybe an hour sooner but they wanted to make sure I stopped throwing up before taking me out of recovery.

I was on the fence too about when DS1 should visit also and decided it would just be best to wait until The next day.
I figured it would be too much for him with the catheter and IV still in and for the first 24 hours me being being stuck in bed so my husband brought him to visit on day 2. I felt so much better the second day, once the catheter was out and I could walk around, get up and shower I felt like a new person so for me waiting to bring DS1 to visit until the next day worked out better.

I guess after all that rambling what I meant to say was even though my first CS was by far much more stressful, I was sick less and felt better sooner. This most recent CS went much better than planned but I definately didn't plan to be so sick afterwards this time around so you just never know I guess. I am sure you will make the right choice because no one knows your DS better than you, but I will just say I am glad we waited to bring him to visit. My
Mom watched him all day at our house and then around 6:30pm my husband went home to be with our son for the night and then my mom came up to visit. DH brought DS1 the next morning around 11am, we were all rested and it was really great to see my older son's reaction to the baby. It is something I will never forget and am thankful we were all rested up enough to have a great second day together!

I agree with the others - my first c-section was an emergency at 32 weeks, this one was planned. It was such an easier experience. I was scheduled for 3:30PM and even though it was smooth - I only came out of recovery at 8:30PM - which is past my DD's bedtime. She is 2 1/2 - and so we waited to bring her to the hospital until the next day. Overall, I was more cleaned up, sitting up etc - so it was better to wait.

I've had two csedtions... the first one was scheduled bc my son was breech and estimated to be very big. My second csection was with my twins... it was scheduled, but my water broke two days early. I had a bad reaction to the anesthesia both times and was vomiting and out of it for several hours. I don't think it had to do with the fact that yours was an emergency bc some people just react this way with the drugs. Once it wore off, my recovery was awesome both times... little to no pain at all, I didn't even need to take Motrin (although I did with the twins bc the nurses thought I should since I was up and down so much with two babies). As for your son, I would have him come the next day. Sometimes the schedules get messed up and you could be pushed back. That reason in addition to the uncertainty of how you will react t the meds, it would make it easier and less stressful for all. You want to be alert and happy when your DS comes to see you. I'm having a third csection this time and don't plan on having the kids come until the next day.

My first was not scheduled either. I was induced, which failed. I too got sick, but just the one time. It really was from all the drugs I was pumped with, which started during my induction. A planned c/s is much different, so I'm hoping for a better outcome with #2.

IMO I would wait til the next day. This way you are all rested.
I also got sick after my C-section (I threw up all over a nurse) and was in recovery for hours before they took me up to a room.

Thanks mamas!
I actually also spoke to my OB about it today during my appt and he basically agreed with all of you.....wait to bring DS1 until the next morning. So that's what we'll do. This way, no one will feel rushed and I'll be a bit more rested and cleaned up to welcome him

Yes definitely wait to bring your DS. I was scheduled with my son last year at LIJ at 330 everything went on time but I wasnt in the room until close to 730. There was a shift change transport was behind. It sucked because I was so out of it and exhausted by that time and my whole family was waiting.

Mine wasn't an emergency but I was in and out of it the whole time and so nauseas for at least 10 hrs after. I delivered at almost midnight too so I was tired too. Idk if it was from morphine but I plan to tell the anesthesiologist this time.

If I'm out of it again I won't see anyone other than DH until I'm coherent. DH will bring the girls when I'm better.

I have to agree with everyone else. I would wait until the next day when you are cleaned up and can move a bit better. I was so uncomfortable with the catheter and swollen from all the fluids. I felt like a whole new person the next day when I was showered and they removed the catheter.

I've heard that scheduled csections are actually better than emergency ones, in regards to how u recuperate. With DS, it was kinda like an emergency csection, but not really because I never really went into labor, it was super quick, literally 15 min and went back to my room relatively quickly, didn't have any bad reactions to the meds either.

I don't think ur first plan (about ur DS) is bad, but it all depends on what time he goes to bed, and also if the hospital will allow him to stay there after a specific time.
