Dance recital guests?

DD (3.5) has a dance recital soon. This is the first thing she has ever done and quite a few family members want to come. Do I pay for the tickets or do they? I'm really conflicted here but wouldn't mind paying for them if that's what people do. I was planning on having a BBQ at my house after as it is in the early afternoon.

We and other family members have gone to my niece's dance recitals for years. My SIL has always bought the tickets. We have tried to give her money but she would never take it. My niece gets showered with giftsChat Icon

If you are inviting, then you pay. I have been a guest a few times at these types of events and have never been asked to pay.

Re: Dance recital guests?

My mom, mother in law, and sister in law have always paid for their own tickets. If they didn't, it would be a lot of money ($27 per ticket per show) since my kids are in several shows.

Re: Dance recital guests?

This is my DD's third year in dance, I ask who wants to come to her recital (there is one in Dec. and June) and let them know the ticket price. If they decide to go to the recital they pay for their own tickets. I'm not sure why I would need to pay for everyone's ticket since it's their choice if they want to go or not.

I disagree. It's not a formal invite, it's simply letting my family know when it is and if they want to come they buy a ticket. Between our tickets, what I pay for dance, and the costume it's too much money to pay for everyone. I do however, have everyone back to the house for pizza and cake after.

There's no way I could pay for everyone's ticket, wish I could. I put out a family email saying when they show is and what the tickets cost and those who wanted to go paid for a ticket.

I am hosting a BBQ after though.

Re: Dance recital guests?

I asked who wanted to come and told them the price. Tickets are really expensive. We have 12 guests so no way would I pay for everyone. I laid out the money and when the tickets come in than they will reimburse me.

When ever I went to a dance show, I always paid what ever the price of the ticket was. My sister in law used to ask who wanted to go...the ticket is this much..and once she got the tickets we would give her the money. I never minded paying.

We decided to pay for all 12 tickets. It's a lot of money for seeing DD do one dance and we talked about and felt more comfortable just shelling it out ourselves. We will still have the bbq back at the house too. Thanks for your input everyone

We do not pay for the recital tickets. We do either have lunch for everyone afterwards though that we pay for.

Dance recital guests?

We always pay. And then we always treat afterwards. This year I'm getting off easy- the normal people that usually come can't bc of conflicts so I only have to purchase 3! But in past no matter how many I pay.

We are paying, but it's only my parents and MIL. 12 people I couldn't pay for, so I didn't invite anyone else.

As a dance teacher, I also disagree. If you say "would you like to come to her dance recital?" that is an invitation. But if you are just putting it out there as XX's dance recital, if you want to come let me know, tickets are $XX, thats the norm at least in my school.

In my case it has always been an invitation, never an open ended invite. I personally wouldnt have a problem shelling out money for people that i specifically want to attend. Then again, i understand it is different for everyone considering finances etc.

Dance recital guests?

My DD has a recital coming up in few weeks, and we bought the tickets for our guests. In our case it is just MIL and FIL, as my parents are working. If we had additional guests, we would have bought the tickets, as it is just the norm in our circle/community. I have attended recitals for family, and the entry was always "free".. but we give participant a generous gift.

My brother calls me every year and says "this the date and how much the tickets are". Personally I would never think he would buy me the ticket. I have always paid him back.

Re: Dance recital guests?

I pay for whomever I invite (about 6 people, not including ourselves).

This is what we do. We only invite our immediate family. I bought 6 tickets this year. I could/would never be able to do it for 12 people every year.
